Lester Records First Career Double-Double in 68-61 Loss to Binghamton

Junior Forward Scores 10 Points, Pulls Down Career-High 10 Rebounds
DURHAM, N.H. – Jordan Reed (Lucas, Texas) scored 19 points to lead four Wildcats in double digits, but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team was defeated 68-61 by Binghamton University in Saturday afternoon's America East conference game at Lundholm Gym.
Reed was followed by Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn; 13 points), Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.; 11) and Chris Lester (Barrington, Ill.; 10). Lester also pulled down a team- and career-high 10 rebounds to record his first double-double. Guadarrama finished with a team- and personal-best six assists as well as four rebounds and three steals, which also marked a career high.
Sam Sessoms (28 points) and Caleb Stewart (16) scored 44 of Binghamton's 68 points. Sessoms' other numbers included five rebounds and four assists. Caleb and Chancellor Barnard led the Bearcats with seven rebounds apiece.
UNH is now 3-20 overall and 1-9 in America East and Binghamton improved to 7-18, 3-7 with the season sweep in the Battle of the 'Cats.

FIRST HALF
- Binghamton got the first half started with two 3-pointers, with UNH getting on the board on a jumper from Guadarrama followed by a layup by Lester.
- At the first media timeout (15:15), Binghamton led the Wildcats 12-6.
- The Bearcats extended the margin to 20-8, but Guadarrama made a jumper and huge 3-pointer to bringing the home 'Cats within 20-13 at 9:51.
- Following one good free throw from Sessoms, UNH continued to claw back on jumpers by Reed and David Watkins (Dorchester, Mass.). And then at 7:19, an impressive layup and-1 from David Hall (Bucyrus, Ohio) trimmed the deficit to just one point, 21-20.
- Carbone kept momentum with a 3-ball that once again put the Wildcats within one point, 26-25, at 5:21.
- Binghamton closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 33-25 advantage into the locker room.
SECOND HALF
- The Wildcats still trailed by eight points, 43-35, before Carbone made a layup and 3-pointer to lift UNH within 43-40 with 15 left in game play.
- Lester contributed to the score with two free throws which, along with a layup from Hall, got New Hampshire to 46-44 behind the Bearcats at 13:43.
- Sessoms answered immediately with a 3-pointer, then he made a layup at 11:00 and Stewart hit a 3-ball to reestablish a double-digit lead, 54-44 at 10:08.
- Barnard's layup gave the visitors a 6-0-45 advantage at 7:02, but Reed ignited an 8-0 run with a pair of fouls shots and a 3-pointer. Carbone's 3-ball moved the score to 60-53 at 4:29.
- Binghamton led 64-55 with 1:40 remaining, but Reed hit two more free throws and a jumper to trim the deficit to five points with 76 seconds to play.
- Following a defensive stop, Guadarrama missed a jumper in the lane with 25 seconds on the clock.
- Binghamton went 4-for-4 from the foul line in the last 17 seconds to secure the victory.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- The all-time series between New Hampshire and Binghamton is now level at 19-19.
- Binghamton had lost nine straight in the series prior to the 2018-19 season.
- The Bearcats had lost five straight matchups in Lundholm Gym dating back to their 72-71 overtime win Feb. 12, 2014.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Reed's 19 points were two less than his career high of 21 set last month at Hartford. He made 6 of 15 field goal attempts, including 3 of 10 3's, and was 4-for-4 from the foul line.
- Guadarrama was one point shy of tying his career high of 14 points established vs. Rivier in the season opener. The 13 points are his high vs. a Division I opponent. Guadarrama made 6 of 10 field goals.
- In addition to tallying career highs in assists (six) and steals (three), Guadarrama played a career-high 33 minutes.
- Lester made 4 of 6 FGs and was 2-for-2 at the foul line for his 10 points. He pulled down five of his career-high 10 boards on the offensive glass. Lester's 33 minutes were one less than his personal high (34 vs. Boston U. last November).
- Carbone matched his personal best of three 3-pointers (3-for-5). He also tallied four rebounds and three assists in 30 minutes off the bench.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- There were no ties or lead changes in the game.
- Sessoms scored 20 of his game-high 28 points in the second half, when he made 7 of 11 FGs (2-4 on 3's) and all four free throw attempts.
- Binghamton made 26 of 55 FGs (47.3%) while UNH shot 23-for-51 (45.1%).
- The Bearcats had the slightest of edges in both rebounds (30-29) and turnovers (12-13).
- Both teams shot well from the foul line. UNH made 8 of 9 FTs (88.9%) and Binghamton was 7-for-8 (87.5%).
- Scoring in the paint was even at 24.
- The Bearcats had the edge in points off turnovers (18-11).
