El Shakery Leads Wildcats with 16 Points at UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – Redshirt sophomore forward Belal El Shakery (Alexandria, Egypt) recorded 16 points and eight rebounds but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team was defeated 78-56 by UMass Lowell at the Kennedy Family Athletic Complex on Thursday night.
Sophomore forward John Squire (Sausalito, Calif.) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and scored seven points.
UMass Lowell was led by Angel Montas, Jr. (25 points), Xavier Spencer (17) and Darrel Yepdo (12). Austin Green had a game-high 12 rebounds and Montas, Jr. had 10.
UNH moves to 8-17 overall and 4-8 in America East while UML is now 12-15, 7-5.

FIRST HALF
- UNH took its first lead of the game when Jack Graham (Smithfield, R.I.) hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key for a 5-4 lead at 18:37.
- El Shakery's layup put the Wildcats back in front, 7-6, at 16:51.
- UML went on a 9-0 run to built a 15-7 advantage and the River Hawks maintained the lead the rest of the way.
- The margin reached double digits, 24-14, at 9:33.
- The lead grew to 40-23 with 1:27 remaining in the first half.
SECOND HALF
- UNH opened the second half on a 9-4 spurt to trim the deficit to single digits, 46-37, when Bike hit a 3-pointer at 15:26.
- UMass Lowell scored 12 consecutive points to build a 58-37 lead at 11:16.
- The margin fluctuated between 18-26 points the rest of the way.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- El Shakery has been UNH's top scorer in seven games this season.
- Squire has also been the Wildcats top rebounder seven times.
- Jon O'Neill (Kaukauna, Wis.) recorded seven points and four points in 11 minutes.
- Tyler Bike (Merrimack N.H.) had a team-high four assists.
- Bike has been UNH's assist leader 11 times.
