Torres Records 14 Saves in 14-6 Loss to Harvard

Larivee Scores Three Goals to Record 100th Career Point (97 at BU)
DURHAM, N,H. — Mickenzie Larivee (Amherst, N.H.) recorded a team-leading seven shots, resulting in three consecutive goals in the span of 3 and a half minutes to give the Wildcats momentum in the second half, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 14-6 by Harvard University at Wildcat Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Larivee, a senior transfer from Boston University, recorded her 100th career point off on her third goal of the game.
Sophomore Gabby Masseur (Nashua, N.H.) made her first career start for the Wildcats and recorded three shots, converting one into a goal for her first career goal.
Senior Elise Chandler (Hopkinton, Mass.) guided the defense with a team-high three caused turnovers and was assisted by freshman defender Meghan Doyle (Pittsford, N.Y.), who led the Wildcats with four ground balls.
UNH freshman goalie Issy Torres (Elmhurst, Ill.) made her collegiate debut and made a total of 14 saves, resulting in a .500 save percentage.
Harvard goalie Grace Rotondo also recorded a .500 save percentage with six saves of 12 shots on goal. Kelley MacAfee (four goals, one assist) and Nicole Baiocco (three goals, one assist) led the attack.
This was the season opener for both UNH and Harvard. The Wildcats are now 0-1.

THE DIFFERENCE
• UNH scored four consecutive goals in the second half to tighten up the score at 9-6, but couldn't halt Harvard's momentum in the last 11 minutes of the game as the Crimson pulled away with five goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• UNH opened up the scoring with an unassisted goal from Devan Miller (Bristol, R.I.) at 28:45 off a rebound from the crossbar.
• Harvard tied the game up at 26:00 and followed up with another goal at 21:49 by Keeley MacAfee to take the 2-1 lead. MacAfee's goal was scored off a bounce shot to the bottom left corner of the goal.
• After an interception by Harvard's Katie Muldoon, Grace Hulslander increased their lead to 3-1 at 19:23 off a shot from the top of the crease. At 17:43, MacAfee notched her second goal of the game to make the score 4-1.
• Catherine Sexton (Niskayuna, N.Y.) decreased the Wildcats' deficit to 4-2 at 13:44 after earning a free position shot at the top of the 8-meter fan.
• Harvard answered UNH's goal with a goal off a free position by Caroline Garrity at 13:20. At 11:22, Nicole Baiocco scored her second goal of the game for Harvard, increasing the visitor's lead to 6-2.
• At 10:53, Harvard scored again to advance the score to 7-2. The Wildcat defense prevented them scoring for the remainder of the half.
• Harvard won the first draw control of the second half. MacAfee netted the first goal of the half for Harvard, which increased their lead to 8-2.
• Baiocco completed her hat trick by scoring a bounce shot goal at 23:28, making the score 9-2.
• Gabby Masseur (Nashua, N.H.) started up the scoring for the Wildcats in the second half, scoring her first career goal off an assist by Devan Miller.
• UNH put another point on the board with a goal by Larivee, who curled around from the back of the net and shot the ball high above Rotondo.
• Another goal by Larivee at 14:53 cut Harvard's lead to 9-5. Larivee took a one-time shot off a pass sent from behind the net from Miller.
• At 13:51, Larivee scored her third consecutive goal for the Wildcats, completing a hat trick and making the score 9-6.
• Fortune favored Harvard when Larivee's sixth shot ricocheted off the post at 11:47. Following the Wildcat's possession, Harvard entered UNH's defensive zone and scored on a shot by Tessa Queri at 11:04.
• Harvard established a five-goal lead on MacAfee's fourth goal of the game at 8:41. Shortly after, Harvard scored an unassisted player-up goal by Grace Hulslander at 7:43.
• At 3:15, Garrity's unassisted goal pushed the advantage to 13-6. Following that, Queri scored on a free-position shot from the top of the fan, increasing Harvard's lead to 14-6 at 1:10 to close the scoring for the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Despite UNH scoring first, Harvard was able to establish a 7-2 lead at halftime. Harvard led in first-half shots (20-7), ground balls (10-4), and draw controls (8-2). The Wildcats led in saves (8-4).
• Harvard upheld its statistical advantages in the second half, with a final of 37 shots, 18 ground balls, and 15 draw controls. UNH finished with 17 shots, 10 ground balls and seven draws.
• Both teams went .500 in free position shots, with UNH scoring on 1 of 2, and Harvard scoring on 3 of 6.
UNH NOTEBOOK
• Larivee's hat trick for UNH included both her first goal as a Wildcat and her 100th career point.
• Ten players made their Wildcat debuts. In addition to Larivee, Masseur, Doyle and Torres, Delaney Pratt and Abby Cranney were in the starting lineup; Taylor Dudek, Emily Curtis, Lily Powell and Adena Rothbard saw action off the bench.
• Miller tallied a goal and two assists to match Larivee's team-high three points.
