‘Cats Fall Short at the Buzzer, 66-64, to Stony Brook

DURHAM, N.H. – Jordan Reed (Lucas, Texas) scored a game-high 17 points but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell short at the buzzer in Saturday's 66-64 loss to Stony Brook University at Lundholm Gym.
Reed, Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) and Chris Lester (Barrington, I'll.) each made three 3-pointers. Both Hopkins and Lester netted 14 points. Hopkins and Nick Guadarrama (Newington Conn.) finished with a team-high rebounds.
Akwasi Yeboah and Andrew Garcia led SBU with 15 points apiece. Garcia pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
UNH is now 3-22 overall and 1-11 in America East. Stony Brook moves to 21-5, 9-2.

FIRST HALF
• UNH took is first lead of the game at 18:06 when Lester hit a 3-pointer to make the score 3-1.• The Wildcats went on a 1-10 shooting drought until Hopkins hit a 3-ball at 12:09 to bring the Wildcats within two points, 13-11.
• The Wildcats trailed 17-11 until an 8-0 run led by Mark Carbone and Lester, gave the 'Cats a 19-17 lead.
• Stony Brook responded quickly tying the game at 19 with Yeboah's layup.
• A Marque Maultsby 3-pointer gave the Wildcats a 22-19 lead at 6:31.
• Garcia's and-1 tied the game up at 24-24 with 2:20 left in the half, then two Yeboah free throws puts SBU back up, 26-24, with 39 seconds left.
• Then with time dwindling down, Hopkins hit a layup with seven seconds left resulting in the half ending in a 26-26 tie.
SECOND HALF
• Stony Brook opened up the half with a Mikes Latimer layup, and then an Olaniyi offensive rebound led to a Yeboah 3-pointer.• The Wildcats responed with a 3-ball of their own, but then Yeboah hit an and-1 layup to make the score 34-29 at 17:51.
• Reed's 3-pointer and two free throws by Hopkins tied the game up 34-34 at 15:57.
• A bank shot 3-pointer by Lester tied the game back up at 44-44.
• Garcia made another layup, but then Reed hit a 3-ball in the corner to give the 'Cats a 47-46 lead.
• Stony Brook immediately responded again with a pull-up jumper by Jules Moor, and then Reed hit another 3-pointer from the other corner putting the 'Cats up 50-48 with 10:05 left in the game.
• Guadarrama hit 1 of 2 free throws putting the Cats up 51-48.
• After another Stony Brook layup, David Watkins hit a 3-ball at 9:14 extending the lead to 54-50.
• Olaniyi hits a layup at 8:09 to bring the visitors within two.
• Reed drew a foul and sank both free throws to bring New Hampshire up 56-52.
• Stony Brook took the lead 57-56 after two free throws by Jaron Conish, but UNH got it back after two free throws by Guadarrama.
• Stony Brook responded with a Cornish 3-pointer at 5:43, giving them the lead 60-58.
• Garcia's dunk at 3:46 gave SBU a 63-59 lead.
• With 1:08 left on the clock, Hopkins hit a pull-up 3-ball to bring the 'Cats within one, 63-62.
• Garcia hits both making the score 65-62 with 37 seconds left.
• Cornish made 1 of 2 free throws with 16 seconds left but Lester responded with a layup with eight seconds left to lift UNH within 66-64.
• Cornish missed two foul shots with six seconds left. Carbone got the rebound and passed the ball to Reed, whose 3-point attempt was short.
