'Cats Edged by UMBC, 59-51

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team rallied to take a 47-46 lead with 5:47 remaining in regulation, but UMBC left Lundholm Gym with a 59-51 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Elijah Jordan (Orlando, Fla.) was the only Wildcat who scored in double figures with 10 points on 4 of 5 shooting from the floor, including a pair of 3-pointers. David Watkins (Dorchester, Mass.) followed with nine points. Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) and Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) scored nine points apiece. Hopkins finished with a team-high six rebounds while Maultsby had a team-high three assists and two steals.
UMBC was led by K.J. Jackson (21 points) and Joe Sherburne (14, nine rebounds).
UNH is now 3-16 overall and 1-5 in America East. UMBC win its fourth consecutive game to improve to 13-9, 5-2.

FIRST HALF
* Jordan Reed (Lucas, Texas) and Jordan fueled the Wildcats' offense in the opening minutes with two jumpers from Reed and an impressive 3-pointer by Jordan to bring the 'Cats within 10-7 at 15:03.
* A 3-pointer from Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) tied it 10-10 with 14 minutes left in the opening half.
* UNH grabbed its first lead of the game at 10:29 on a jumper from Maultsby.
* The Retrievers extended the lead to nine points, 27-18, before Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) hit a huge 3-ball to bring the Wildcats within 27-21 at 2:58.
* Nolan Gerrity scored his only two points of the game on a tip-in with two seconds remaining to give the Retrievers a 31-23 halftime lead over the Wildcats.
SECOND HALF
* The Wildcats got the second half off to a strong start with Reed's jumper and Watkins' 3-pointer that trimmed the deficit to 33-28.
* Another Watkins jumper lifted the 'Cats within two points, 38-36, at 13:37 but UMBC responded with a 6-0 run to take a 44-36 lead midway through the second half.
* UNH pushed back and went on an 11-2 run to take a 47-46 lead over the Retrievers with 5:47 left. Maultsby ignited the spurt with a layup. Hopkins followed with a 3-pointer at 9:03 and his next 3-pointer put the home team back in front.
* After two empty trips by both teams, Sherburne's short jumper in the paint gave UMBC a 48-47 lead at 4:26 and sparked a seven-point surge that gave the visitors a 53-47 lead at 3:07.
* Guadarrama's layup lifted the Wildcats within 53-49 at 2:22, but the Retrievers went 6-for-6 from the foul line the rest of the way to preserve the lead.
