'Cats Ousted In America East Semis with 19-5 Loss to #1 Stony Brook

Rebecca Sennott and Carly Wooters Named to All-Championship Team
STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) both recorded a goal and an assist, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was ousted from the America East Championships with a 19-5 loss to No. 1-ranked and top-seeded Stony Brook University in Friday afternoon's semifinal at LaValle Stadium.
UNH, which outscored the Seawolves 4-3 in the second half on a 13-5 shot advantage, ends the year at 6-11. Stony Brook improved to 18-0 and will play in Sunday's conference title game.
Elizabeth Blanding (Pittsford, N.Y.), Caroline Hernon (Hampton, N.H.) and Rebecca Sennott (Westford, Mass.) scored UNH's other goals. Sennott and Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) both recorded a game-high six draw controls. Sennott and Wooters were named to the All-Championship Team.
Kylie Ohlmiller (4g, 5a), Courtney Murphy (5g, 2a) and Taryn Ohlmiller (3g, 3a) led the Seawolves' attack.
UNH goalkeeper Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) was credited with five saves. SBU counterpart Anna Tesoriero stopped 8 of 12 shots on goal ini 51:38; Jessica Goralski made one save and allowed one goal in 8:22 of relief.
Schafer, who was named to the All-Conference Second Team the eve before the tourney, corralled two ground balls to tie for the team lead with captain and All-Academic Team honoree Lizzie Suschana (Somers, Conn.), who was also credited with a caused turnover.
THE DIFFERENCE
Stony Brook controlled the first five draws of the game to quickly build a 5-0 lead less than five minutes into the game, and the Seawolves rolled out to a 13-0 lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kylie Olhmiller scored 32 seconds into the game then Zullo, Kylie Ohlmiller and Ally Kennedy scored in a 44-second span to

Murphy netted consecutive goals at 25:25 and 23:06 to push the lead to six goals.
Taryn Ohlmiller made it 7-0 at 21:06, then Siobahn Rafferty and Taryn Ohlmiller struck 47 seconds apart to create a nine-goal cushion at 18:57.
Kyle Ohlmiller netted the next two goals to make it 11-0 at 13:42.
Tiffany Zullo (at 11:40) and Taryn Ohlmiller (7:49) scored the next two goals.
Schafer netted a player-up goal, her 41st tally of the season, at 5:13 when she scored on a low shot from the left doorstep.
Catherine Sexton (Niskayuna, N.Y.), with the pass from the left wing, earned the assist.
SBU closed the half with three consecutive goals (at 3:52, 1:43 and 10 seconds) to take a 16-1 lead into halftime.
Murphy scored the game's third consecutive goal to open the second-half scoring at 28:37.
With the shot clock winding down, Rebecca Sennott struck at 26:10 when she cut down the right side of the fan and ripped a shot into the cage.
A goal by Marly Moon Gaddy pushed the score to 18-2 at 20:33.
Northrup, from behind the net, found Blanding low on the right side and she converted the pass into her 13th goal of the year at 18:36.
On a free position from the far left, Hernon beat a defender and scored on a low shot at 13:49 for her seventh goal of the year, fifth on a free-position shot.
Schafer, behind the net on the left side, snapped a diagonal pass over the crossbar to Northrup on the right wing, and she one-timed a shot into the net to close the scoring at 3:57.
UNH NOTEBOOK
The assist on the last goal of the game was the first of the sesaon for Schafer, who finished the 2018 season with 41 goals - the highest total by a Wildcat since 2014.
Schafer led this year's squad in both goals and points (42). She amassed 106 goals and five assists for 111 career points.
The end of the 2018 season also marks the end of UNH Wildcat careers for seven seniors: Clancy, Schafer, Cat Sennott (Westford, Mass.), Rebecca Sennott, Suschana, Ashley Watson (Travers City, Mich.) and Wooters.
Wooters' career stats include 82 goals and 19 assists for 101 points; she also had 119 draw controls.
Northrup's goal and assist increased her career totals to 21 goals and 23 assists for 44 points. Her 23 assists are most for any 'Cat on the 2018 roster.
Cat Sennott finished her career with 93 ground balls and 55 caused turnovers with 48 GBs and 28 CTOs this season.
Clancy started all 67 games in four years and holds is the program record holder for career minutes by a goalkeeper.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Stony Brook has ousted New Hampshire from the America East tourney three consecutive years and each of the Wildcats' last four tournament appearances (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018).
Stony Brook led 6-0 before UNH recorded its first shot of the game; Schafer's shot from 5-meters that was stopped by Tesoriero at 22:30.
SBU led 16-1 at halftime with the statistical edge in shots (25-7), draw controls (10-7), ground balls (10-3) and turnovers (5-11).
The challenge of slowing down SBU's top three point producers became even bigger when UNH's All-Conference First Team defender Cat Sennott was issued two yellow cards and had to sit out the final 42 minutes, 9 seconds.
