Neyland, Wooters Score Five Goals Apiece in 16-13 Loss at Boston U.

Schafer Scores 100th Career Goal
BOSTON – Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) and Julia Neyland (Boxborough, Mass.) scored five goals apiece and Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored her 100th career goal, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was edged 16-13 by Boston University at Nickerson Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Wooters and Neyland finished with five points; both the five goals and five points marked career highs for Neyland, who also had three ground balls, one draw control and a caused turnover. Wooters was also credited with two GBs, three DCs and three CTOs.
Schafer, who entered the game with 99 career goals, scored her 100th at 17:20 of the second half.
UNH starting goalie Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.), the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week, exited the game with two saves and the Wildcats trailing 10-2 at 7:24 of the first half. Amanda Gottlieb (Canton, Conn.) played 35:33 in relief and stopped 5 of 10 shots on goal and finished with a career-high five GBs.
BU was led offensively by Avery Donahoe (eight goals, one assist), Caroline English (2g, 2a) and Ryann Gaffney (3g). Christine Laible was credited with nine saves.
UNH, which entered the game on a three-game win streak, is now 6-7. BU extended its win streak to three games to improve to 6-6.

THE DIFFERENCE
- BU closed the first half on an 8-3 run to build a 12-6 advantage going into halftime, and the Wildcats never got closer than two goals in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU quickly took a 1-0 lead on English's free-position goal at 28:37.
- Wooters tied the score, 1-1, at 27:04 on a sidearm shot from the right wing.
- Gaffney scored 13 seconds later to give the Terriers a lead they would not relinquish.
- Donahue scored at 26:04 and 24:46 to push the advantage to 4-1.
- Wooters dodged down the middle of the fan and scored on a bounce shot to trim the deficit to 4-2 at 22:40.
- Neyland scored 18 seconds later to lift the 'Cats within one goal.
- BU's Kelly Matthews scored on a free position 61 seconds later and Donahoe's third goal of the game pushed the margin to 6-3 at 16:27.
- Wooters, from the top of the 8-meter, fired a low, sidearm shot into the net to lift UNH within 6-4 at 15:09.
- Gaffney converted Donahoe's feed into the Terrier's seventh goal of the game at 14:01.
- Goals by Donahoe and Ava Barry – on a rebound in front after Clancy made a save on a free position – were scored 48 seconds apart to extend the lead to 9-4 at 10:09.
- Neyland's stick check and ground ball in the attack zone led to a 1-v-1 in which she beat the goalie to trim the deficit to 9-5 at 8:11.
- Donahoe converted a free position into a goal at 7:24, at which point Gottlieb entered the game in goal for the 'Cats.
- Moments later, Gottlieb made a save on a free position but Donahoe corralled the ground ball and scored to create an 11-5 lead at 6:49.
- Wooters eluded three defenders on a drive down the middle of the fan and scored from close range to make the score 11-6 at 4:56.
- Michele Smith (Wantagh, N.Y.) hit the crossbar at 1:57 and Wooters also fired a shot off the crossbar 27 seconds later to keep the differential at five goals.
- Kaitlin Belval netted a free-position goal with nine seconds on the clock to send BU into halftime with a 12-6 lead.
- Neyland opened the second-half scoring at 26:43 when Caroline Hernon (Hampton, N.H.) scooped up a ground ball near midfield and slipped a pass over the defense to Neyland low on the right side.
- Donahoe scored at 23:23 and 22:17 to push the led to 14-7.
- Elizabeth Blanding (Pittsford, N.Y.) finished a feed from Hernon to start a 3-0 run at 21:20.
- Neyland scored her fourth goal of the game on a free position from the right hash at 20:39.
- Schafer scored her milestone goal on a quick catch-and-shoot off a pass from Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) to lift the Wildcats within 14-10 at 17:20.
- English scored on a free position to push the advantage back to five goals at 16:13.
- Neither team scored for more than nine minutes until Neyland scored her career-high fifth goal of the game at 7:01, when she ripped a free position from the right hash inside the far post.
- Northrup took one step on a free position from the right hash and fired a low shot into the goal to lift New Hampshire within 15-12 at 5:52.
- Wooters was denied with five minutes remaining but scored at 3:06 to trim the deficit to 15-13. She caught the ball on the left wing, cut past a pair of defenders and ripped a low shot into the cage.
- BU was whistled for a yellow card with just under two minutes to play, but the 'Cats lost possession immediately on a false start.
- UNH pulled Gottlieb for an extra field player with 1:51 left. The Wildcats regained possession with 45 seconds left, but turned the ball over in the attack zone and BU's Gaffney scored into an empty net with 16 seconds to play to secure the victory.

- Schafer extended her goal and point streaks to 11 games; she has 30 points, all on goals, during the streak. She has scored a goal in 12 of 13 games overall this season.
- Wooters extended her goal and point streaks to 10 games; she has 29 goals and four assists for 33 points in that time.
