Sennott Leads Defensive Effort in 14-5 Loss at Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Cat Sennott (Westford, Mass) recorded seven ground balls and four caused turnovers, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 14-5 by Harvard University at Jordan Field on Saturday afternoon.
Sennott, the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week, recorded career highs in both GB and CTOs. Her sister, Rebecca, tallied a personal best of six draw controls. Lizzie Suschana (Somers, Conn.) finished with a career-high five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Anna Vogt (Stratham, N.H..) led the offense with three goals.
UNH starting goalkeeper Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) exited the game with UNH trailing 11-4 at 13:29 of the second half. She was charged with the loss in the six-save effort. Amanda Gottlieb (Canton, Conn.) stopped one of four shots on goal in her collegiate debut.
Harvard goalie Olivia Gundrum made 14 saves. Keely MacAfee led the offense with four goals and two assists. Julia Glynn (3g, 2a), Tessa Queri (3g) and Nicole Baiocco (1g, 3a) also tallied multiple points.
This was the season opener for Harvard. UNH is now 1-1.

WHAT'S NEXT
- UNH returns to action Feb. 21 (3 p.m.) at Dartmouth College.
- The Wildcats' next home game is Feb. 24 against Central Connecticut State University. Game time at Bremner Field is 1 p.m.
THE DIFFERENCE
- UNH opened the second-half scoring to close within 7-4, but Harvard reeled off seven consecutive goals and kept the 'Cats scoreless for 27 minutes to take control of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Harvard struck first on MacAfee's free-position shot at 27:09.
- MacAfee set up Glynn's goal at 24:03 and Hannah Keating scored at 22:11 to give the Crimson a 3-0 lead and prompt New Hampshire to call time out.
- Clancy made a big save on a free positon, then Vogt netted her fourth goal of the season at 20:18 to lift the 'Cats within 3-1.
- With a Wildcat serving a yellow card, Clancy turned aside MacAfee at 17:56 to keep the margin at two goals.
- UNH gained possession, but then committed a turnover and Queri reestablished a three-goal lead of 4-1 at 16:23.
- Harvard generate a free position at 15:22 and that led to MacAfeee's second goal of the game – this time off a feed from Baiocco – to give the home team a 5-1 lead at 15:03.
- Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) was awarded a free position at 14:13, but her shot attempt was blocked and the Crimson gained possession.
- Queri's second unassisted goal of the game extended the advantage to 6-1 at 12:06.
- Rebecca Sennott corralled the ball on the ensuing draw control. Vogt's initial shot sailed wide of the cage, but UNH retained possession and Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season at 11:28 to trim the deficit to 6-2.
- Glynn became the third Harvard player to score two goals in the game at 10:30 to push the margin to 7-2.
- Clancy then denied Glynn just 29 seconds later to get the ball back for the 'Cats.
- Vogt's free-position shot caromed off the crossbar at 9:19.
- Suschana caused a turnover and gathered the ground ball at 8:45. That led to Northrup's shot that was stopped by Gundrum and a free position that was also turned away by the Harvard goalie.
- Vogt struck again at 4:19 – her unassisted tally was set up by Cat Sennott's caused turnover and ground ball by Julia Neyland (Boxborough, Mass.) – to make the score 7-3.
- Tatum Benesh (Horseheads, N.Y.) controlled the next draw and another UNH shot – this time out of the crosse of Michele Smith (Wantagh, N.Y.) – hit the crossbar at 4:07.
- Benesh caused a turnover and was credited with a ground ball with 80 seconds remaining in the first half. UNH cleared the ball into the attack zone and Wooters' free-position shot was saved by Gundrum.
- Harvard won the opening draw control of the second half, but Suschana tallied another caused turnover and ground ball to gain possession for UNH and Vogt capitalized at the other end of the field to pull the Wildcats within 7-4 at 28:20.
- The Crimson once again controlled the draw, however, and Macafee converted a free position into an 8-4 lead at 28:04.
- Gundrum preserved the four-goal lead when she stopped Wooters on a free positon at 25:01.
- Harvard advanced the ball into the attack zone and Baiocco scored off Keating's feed to give the Crimson at 9-4 lead at 24:34.
- Gundrum made yet another save on a free position – this time facing Neyland – at 24:18. She also denied Northrup ( 22:17) and Wooters' free-position bid at 20:28..
- Suschana's fourth ground ball of the game led to another UNH free position, and once again Gundrum kept the 'Cats at by with a save against Neyland at 18:00.
- Sennott's fourth ground ball gave possession to New Hampshire, but Neyland was again stoned by Gundrum.
- Madison Conklin's free-position goal gave Harvard a 10-4 lead at 15:46.
- UNH continued to generate chances, but Vogt fired wide and Wooters' shot was saved by Gundrum at 14:36.
- Goals by MacAfee (at 13:29), Caroline Garrity (9:58), Glynn (7:00) and Queri (5:12) pushed the lead to 14-4.
- Catherine Sexton (Niskayuna, N.Y.), the reigning America East Offensive Player of the Week, scored on a free position with 1:10 remaining to close the scoring.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- New Hampshire trailed 7-3 at halftime despite having the statistical edge in shots (17-15), draw controls (7-4) and ground balls (14-12).
- The Wildcats finished with the edge in shots (33-28), draw controls (13-8) and ground balls (28-19). Turnovers were even at 17.
- UNH scored on 1 of 11 free-position shots. Harvard was 4-for-8.
