Senior Day Win vs. Binghamton Clinches Spot in Tourney

DURHAM, N.H. – Devon Croke (Norwell, Mass.) and Rebecca Sennott (Westford, Mass.) recorded three points apiece to lead the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to an 11-6 victory in Saturday afternoon's Senior Day game against Binghamton University at Wildcat Stadium.
The win secured a berth in the upcoming America East Championship tournament, where the fourth-seeded Wildcats will play top-seeded Stony Brook University on May 5.
Both Croke and Sennott finished with two goals and an assist. Marissa Gurello (Manorville, N.Y.) and Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) both scored two goals, and Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) tallied two points on a goal and an assist.
Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) made five of her seven saves in the second half. Sennott was credited with two ground balls and two caused turnovers while Wooters had four ground balls and two CTOs.
Binghamton was led offensively by Tiffany Ryan (3g, 2a), Emily Yoo (3a) and Jacqueline Kennedy (2g). Rebecca Golderman, who entered the game with 51 points, was held off the scoresheet by an outstanding defensive effort by UNH's Lizzie Suschana (Somers, Conn.), who finished with two ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls. Bearcats' goalie Emma Jehle stopped 16 shots.
UNH, which has won all 16 lifetime matchups vs. Binghamton, improved to 3-12 overall and 3-3 in America East. Binghamton is 6-10 2-3.

GAME RECAP
- UNH took a 2-0 lead on goals by Rylee Leonard (Coventry, R.I.) at 28:06 and Sennott at 21:48.
- Binghamton scored three consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead. Ryan and Jocelyn Penteck scored 43 seconds apart – at 15:09 and 14:26, respectively – to tie the score and then Kennedy struck at 10:57 to give the Bearcats their only lead of the game.
- The Wildcats closed the first half with consecutive goals and opened the second half with back-to-back tallies to take a 6-3 lead it would not relinquish.
- Croke leveled the score, 3-3, at 10:03 and Northrup converted Wooters' pass into a goal at 2:39 to send New Hampshire into halftime with a 4-3 lead.
- Wooters netted a player-up goal at 25:05 and Sennott's feed from behind the net found Northrup cutting down the left side of the fan for a 6-3 lead at 21:12.
- Binghamton inched within 7-5 when Ryan sandwiched a pair of goals around Croke's second strike of the game.
- UNH closed the game on a 4-1 the last 12 minutes of the game to gradually put the game out of reach.
- Michele Smith (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Gurello netted unassisted goals at 11:28 and 9:54 to extend the advantage to 9-5.
- Kennedy scored on a free position to trim the margin to 9-6 at 7:26, but Gurello responded with a free-position goal at 5:48 and Sennott closed the scoring on another free-position shot at 2:29.
'CAT NIPS
- UNH recognized its seven-member Class of 2017 in a post-game ceremony. The seniors are Croke, Gurello, Lily Ford (Holderness, N.H.), Hope Kissick (Cohasset, Mass.), Amy LeBel (Charlton, N.Y.), Lexi Moirano (Vero Beach, Fla.) and Francesca LoVerde (Chicago, Ill.).
- The two goals marked a personal best for both Northrup and Sennott, who was a perfect 2-for-2 on free-position shots and matched her career high of three points.
- Wooters extended her point streak to 10 games and equaled her personal best of four ground balls.
- Croke has a five-game point streak with five consecutive multiple-point games; she has 16 points (10-6-16) in that span.
- Gurello also extended her point streak to five games.
- Smith has recorded one point each of the last five games.
- Kissick and Cat Sennott (Westford, Mass.) both contributed to the defensive effort with three ground balls apiece.
- The six Binghamton goals marked the lowest total by a UNH opponent this season. The Bearcats entered the game averaging 10.60 goals per game.
