Wooters' Late Goal and Defensive Stop Give 'Cats 12-11 Win at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) broke the 11-11 tie with 4:52 remaining to lift the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Saturday afternoon's 12-11 victory against the University of Vermont at Virtue Field.
Wooters finished with two goals and an assist and secured the victory with a caused turnover and ground ball with 45 seconds to play; the Wildcats maintained possession the rest of the way to win the Battle of the 'Cats.
Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) matched her career high of four points with three goals and an assist. Devon Croke (Norwell, Mass.; 1g, 2a), Marissa Gurello (Manorville, N.Y.; 2g) and Anna Vogt (Stratham, N.H.; 1g, 1a) also tallied multiple points.
Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) held UVM scoreless the last 11:33 of the game to allow the Wildcats overcome an 11-8 deficit. Clancy made five of her eight saves in the second half. Rebecca Sennott (Westford, Mass.) led UNH in both ground balls (three) and caused turnovers (three), and scored her first goal of the season.
The Catamounts were led offensively by Jenna Janes (5g), Alison Bolt (2g) and Molly Little (2a). Starting goalie Catherin Green made two saves and allowed six goals. Maddy Kuras, who had started the first 11 games of the season, was credited with seven saves.
UNH, which improved to 31-8 lifetime against UVM, earned its first win of the year to improve to 1-10 overall and 1-1 in America East. Vermont is now 1-11, 0-2.

GAME RECAP
- This game had six ties, five lead changes and six runs of 3 or more goals.
- Alice Cumpston's goal at 11:33 gave the home team an 11-8 lead.
- Croke ignited the comeback with a goal at 7:22. Hope Kissick (Cohasset, Mass.) won the ensuing draw control, drove to the goal and scored 12 seconds later to quickly lift UNH within 11-10.
- A pair of rookies combined to level the score, 11-11, at 6:13 when Rylee Leonard (Coventry, R.I.) finished a feed from Michele Smith (Wantagh, N.Y.). It marked UNH's third goal in 69 seconds.
- Wooters ripped a shot from the top of the 8-meter under the crossbar to give New Hampshire its third lead of the game, 12-11, at 4:52.

- UVM scored two goals in the opening 82 seconds of the game to take a 2-0 lead.
