Pogue, Healy Pace 'Cats Past BU in Home Opener

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a 72-57 win over Boston University in its home opener on Wednesday night in Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats bounced back from a 71-66 loss in overtime at Xavier on Saturday to even their record at 1-1. It was UNH's fourth straight in its series with BU. The Terriers dropped to 1-1.
Senior forward Olivia Healy (Reading, Mass.) added 15 points and led the Wildcats with six assists.
UNH had 21 assists on its 27 baskets. Senior guard Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) had five assists and seven points. Senior guard Aliza Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) contributed eight points, five rebounds and four assists.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats play at Wagner University on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. They play La Salle at the Lehigh Tournament on Saturday Nov. 25 and then play either Fairfield or Lehigh the next day.
UNH's next home game is Wednesday, Nov. 29 vs. Colby-Sawyer at 5 p.m. The Wildcats face Northeastern at home on Friday, Dec. 1 at 5 p.m.

HIGHLIGHTS
The Wildcats took control of the game in the second period when they outscored BU 24-15 to move in front 35-28 at the half.
Pogue scored 10 of her points in the second quarter and Lai nailed a long three-pointer at the buzzer to end the half.
Senior forward Morgan Bassett-Smith (Pickerington, Ohio) and sophomore guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) came off the bench and scored the last 10 points of the third period for UNH.
The Wildcats did not have any points from bench players against Xavier.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Pogue had 10 straight Wildcat points in the second period and finished with 12 points and four rebounds in the half.
Lai scored UNH's first basket of the second half and Fogarty scored from inside for 39-32 and Bassett-Smith and Soucy took over the period from there.
Bassett-Smith scored two baskets and Soucy sandwiched a couple of foul shots between a pair of long jump shots and UNH led 49-40 with one quarter to go.
The Wildcats made 12 of their 17 foul shots in the fourth quarter en route to closing out the victory.
