SMITHFIELD, R. I. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball was edged by Bryant, 42-41, on Thursday evening at Chace Athletic Center.

Sophomore guard Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) led the way with a season-high 17 points, including three 3-pointers, five rebounds, and two steals.

Sophomore guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) added 12 points, six rebounds, and two assists.

The Wildcats drop to 8-12 on the season (2-5 America East), while the Bulldogs improve to 10-9 (3-3).

first quarter

The Wildcats led 4-0 at the first media timeout with 4:41 remaining in the first quarter.
Both teams struggled to find a rhythm offensively, combining for eight turnovers in the early minutes.
DeChent and senior forward Belen Morales Lopez (Alicante, Spain) scored four points apiece for the 'Cats, who led 8-2 after one.
UNH's defense held Bryant to just 1-of-12 shooting in the opening frame.

second quarter

DeChent knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to extend the Wildcats' lead to 14-2 at the 8:25 mark.
Cavanaugh added a step-back 3-pointer, giving UNH its largest lead of the half at 19-4 with 3:25 remaining.
The 'Cats took a 21-9 lead into halftime, holding the Bulldogs to just 3-of-25 shooting in the opening 20 minutes.

third quarter

Cavanaugh opened the second half with her second 3-pointer to match the Wildcats' largest lead of the night at 24-9.
Bryant responded with an 18-0 run, taking its first lead (27-24) with 2:01 remaining in the quarter.
Senior forward Clara Gomez drained a 3-pointer to tie the game at 27 and end a seven-minute UNH scoring drought.
Cavanaugh scored five straight points to close the quarter on an 8-0 run, giving the Wildcats a 32-27 lead heading into the fourth.

fourth quarter

Senior forward Lucia Melero Sabat scored back-to-back buckets to extend the Wildcats' lead to 36-29 at the 6:55 mark.
UNH took a 39-31 advantage, prompting a Bryant timeout with 3:32 to go in the game.
The Bulldogs answered with a 6-2 run to close the gap to 41-37 with 1:23 left.
Bryant banked in a 3-pointer with less than two seconds remaining to make it a one-point game.
The Wildcats were called for a backcourt violation on the ensuing in-bounds play, giving Bryant one final possession.
Ali Brigham scored at the buzzer, sealing the Bulldogs' 42-41 comeback win.
