DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) scored 29 points, but it wasn't enough as the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was defeated by Maine, 65-54, on Thursday evening at Lundholm Gym.

The Wildcats fall to 8-14 on the season (2-7 America East), while the Black Bears improve to 11-10 (6-2).

first quarter

The Black Bears jumped out to an early 13-4 lead as they made six of eight attempts from the field, prompting a UNH timeout with 3:37 to go in the opening frame.
Maine took a 17-11 lead after one quarter.

second quarter

UNH opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run to take its first lead of the game (18-17) at the 7:11 mark.
DeChent's second 3-pointer of the game gave UNH a 23-22 edge at the media timeout (4:28).
UNH led 28-27 before the Black Bears countered with an 8-2 run to take a 35-30 lead at halftime.
DeChent scored 12 points in the frame for the 'Cats, getting up to 17 points through two quarters.

third quarter

The teams traded points to open the second half. A driving layup from junior guard Diana Eliasson (Stockholm, Sweden) got the 'Cats within three (47-44) at the 3:21 mark.
Maine responded with an 8-1 run to take its first double digit lead of the game at 55-45.
Sophomore guard Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) drew a foul and buried two free throws with less than a second left to get the Wildcats within eight at the end of the third.

fourth quarter

The Black Bears opened the fourth quarter with a 10-1 run, making it 65-48 with 1:24 to go in the game.
A late 6-0 run from the Wildcats wasn't enough, as Maine secured the 65-54 win.
