LOWELL, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team defeated UMass Lowell in a hard-fought overtime battle, 62-55, on Saturday afternoon at Costello Athletic Center.

Sophomore guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.), who scored a game-high 19 points, dealt with foul trouble early but scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to lead the Wildcats. She also recorded five rebounds, tied her career high with two blocks, and set a new career high with five steals.

Sophomore guard Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) added 16 points, five rebounds, two steals and a clutch 3-pointer in overtime to seal the win. Senior forward Clara Gomez (Barcelona, Spain) contributed seven points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in 45 minutes of action. Graduate student guard Sydney Lusher (Oneida, N.Y.) was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.

The Wildcats improve to 9-17 on the season (3-10 America East), while the River Hawks drop to 3-21 (1-11).

first quarter

The River Hawks held an early 6-5 lead at the media timeout with 3:12 to go in the opening frame.
UNH took an 8-6 advantage after 3-pointers from freshman guard Elizabeth Lavoie (Derry, N.H.) and Cavanaugh.
UMass Lowell ended the quarter on an 8-2 run, taking a 14-10 lead at the end of the first.

second quarter

The River Hawks scored the first six points of the quarter to increase their lead to double digits (20-10) with 8:11 to go in the first half.
UMass Lowell utilized an 8-0 run to increase its lead to 31-15 before Gomez buried a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to cut the defecit to 31-18 at halftime.

third quarter

The Wildcats trimmed the deficit to single digits (33-24) with a 6-2 start to the second half, prompting a UMass Lowell timeout at 7:23.
The teams traded buckets over the following minutes, with the River Hawks leading 38-29 with 4:34 to go in the quarter.
DeChent swiped a steal and scored on the other end to cap a 5-0 run and get the 'Cats within six (40-34), prompting another UMass Lowell timeout at 1:58.
The River Hawks held a 42-35 advantage at the end of the third as the Wildcats outscored them 17-11 in the quarter.

fourth quarter

Lusher knocked down her third 3-pointer of the game at 8:32 to get the Wildcats within four (44-40).
UMass Lowell held a 48-43 lead at the final media timeout with 4:34 to go in the game.
DeChent scored seven consecutive points, capped by an and-1 to give the Wildcats their first lead since the first quarter (50-48) with 2:19 to go.
The River Hawks tied the game at 50-50 and neither team was able to capitalize on its final possessions, including two missed free throws by DeChent with one second left, sending the game to overtime.

overtime

After the River Hawks scored the first point of the overtime period, DeChent got back to the free throw line and knocked down both to give the Wildcats a 52-51 lead (3:39).
With the shot clock winding down and the game tied at 55-55, Cavanaugh buried a step-back 3-pointer from the top of the key to put the Wildcats ahead with 35 seconds left.
