DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball dropped a close game to UMass Lowell, 56-54, on Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gym.

Sophomore guard Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) led the Wildcats with a career-high 19 points, along with three rebounds, and three steals. Sophomore guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) contributed 16 points.

The Wildcats fall to 8-13 on the season (2-6 America East), while the River Hawks improve to 3-16 (1-6).

UNH hosts Maine on Thursday, Jan. 30 for a 6 p.m. game at Lundholm Gym.
The Border Battle, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, will be a White Out game for Wildcat fans.

FIRST QUARTER:

UNH jumped out to an early 17-4 lead, prompting a UMass Lowell timeout at the four-minute mark.
The Wildcats shot an efficient 8-of-11 from the field while pressuring the River Hawks into four early turnovers.
UMass Lowell ended the quarter on a 7-2 run, narrowing UNH's lead to 19-11.

SECOND QUARTER:

A layup by Morales Lopez followed by a DeChent 3-pointer extended UNH's lead to 24-11 early in the second quarter
Cavanaugh knocked down a mid-range jumper to make it 26-14 with five minutes to go in the first half.
With 0.7 seconds left, Cavanaugh drew a foul on a 3-point attempt and converted two free throws, giving the Wildcats a 28-18 halftime lead.

THIRD QUARTER:

The teams traded buckets to open the second half, with UNH maintaining a 32-22 advantage at the media timeout with 4:47 remaining in the third.
UMass Lowell went on an 11-4 run to pull within three (36-33) late in the quarter
UNH took a 39-35 lead heading in the final quarter of play.

FOURTH QUARTER:

UMass Lowell opened the final period with a 7-2 run to take their first lead at. 42-41 with 7:18 remaining.
UNH answered with six straight points to reclaim a 47-42 lead at the 5:32 mark.
The River Hawks responded with a 6-0 run to go ahead 48-47 with less than three minutes to play.
Cavanaugh delivered in a pivotal moment, hitting an off-balance 3-pointer as the shot clock expired, followed by a steal and fastbreak score to give the 'Cats a 52-48 lead with 2:01 left.
The River Hawks countered with six straight to go up 54-52 with 26 seconds remaining.
Following a timeout, junior guard Diana Eliasson (Stockholm, Sweden) scored a driving layup to tie the game with 20.2 seconds remaining.
UMass Lowell converted on their final possession to secure the 56-54 victory, their first America East win of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

UNH shot .411 (23-of-56) from the field and .091 (2-for-22) from three, while UMass Lowell shot .490 (24-of-49) overall and .286 (2-for-7) from downtown.
The Wildcats outrebounded the River Hawks 35-32.
