Three Wildcats in Double Figures Not Enough as NJIT Pulls Away Late

NEWARK, N.J. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to NJIT, 71-63, on Saturday evening.
Sophomore guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) led the way with 26 points, marking her sixth game of the season with 25 or more.
Sophomore guard Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) added 16 points, while senior forward Belen Morales Lopez recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
The Wildcats drop to 8-16 on the season (2-9 America East), while the Highlanders improve to 9-15 (6-5).

- The Wildcats jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead as DeChent scored five early points.
- A jumper in the lane from Morales Lopez gave the 'Cats a 12-7 lead. NJIT countered with a 10-0 run to take a 17-12 lead with 2:18 to go in the opening frame.
- Cavanaugh scored the final five points of the quarter, knocking down a 3-pointer and two free throws to tie the game at 17-17 at the end of the first.

- Cavanaugh opened the quarter with a pull-up mid-range jumper, but the Highlanders responded with a quick 6-0 run to take a 23-19 lead at 6:28.
- NJIT held a 27-22 advantage at the media timeout with 3:49 to go in the half.
- The teams traded baskets the rest of the way, with UNH outscoring NJIT 9-5 to get within one (32-31) at the end of the first half.
- DeChent scored 14 first-half points to pace the Wildcats.

- NJIT made the first bucket of the quarter, but the 'Cats went on a 6-0 run capped by a Cavanaugh layup after a DeChent steal to take a 37-34 lead (5:53).
- The Wildcats led 44-40 at the media timeout with 1:57 remaining in the third quarter.
- Junior guard Diana Eliasson (Stockholm, Sweden) made a layup and then assisted a DeChent pull-up mid-range as UNH closed the quarter with a six-point lead (48-42).

- Cavanaugh knocked down a jumper to give UNH its largest lead of the game at 50-42 with 9:43 remaining.
- The Highlanders utilized a 10-2 run to tie the game at 52-52 with 5:13 to go.
- The teams went back-and-forth, and the game was tied again at 61-61 before the Highlanders rattled off a 7-0 run to take a 68-61 lead with 33 seconds left to put the game out of reach.
