DeChent Scores 24, Wildcats' Comeback Falls Short at Maine

ORONO, Maine – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team dropped its regular season finale on Thursday evening, falling 62-48 at Maine.
Sophomore guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) scored a game-high 24 points, marking her 10th game of the season with 20 or more. She also grabbed nine boards and swiped four steals.
The Wildcats finish the regular season at 10-19 (4-12 America East), equaling their highest win total since the 2019-20 season.

- The 2025 Jersey Mikes America East Women's Basketball Playoffs begin March 6. UNH is locked in as the No. 8 seed and will face the top-seeded UAlbany on the road.

- Maine opened the game on an 8-0 run before DeChent knocked down a deep mid-range jumper to put the Wildcats on the board at the 6:25 mark.
- The Black Bears extended their lead to 16-6 at the end of the first as DeChent added two points from the free throw line, and senior guard Kenzie Matulonis (Raynham, Mass.) converted a layup on a backdoor cut for the Wildcats.

- DeChent drained a 3-pointer on an assist from Matulonis at 7:39, then followed with a layup to cut the deficit to 22-16.
- Maine responded with a 10-0 run, pushing its lead back to 32-16 with under a minute left in the half.
- DeChent ended the run with a pull-up jumper, but the Black Bears converted a layup before time expired to take a 34-18 lead at the break.

- Matulonis hit her second 3-pointer at 8:37 to open the second half.
- The Wildcats erupted for a 10-0 run, including six straight points from DeChent, capped by a layup from senior forward Belen Morales Lopez (Alicante, Spain) to pull within three (36-33) at 3:38.
- Maine knocked down a 3-pointer before the buzzer, and the Wildcats trailed 41-36 heading into the fourth.

- The Black Bears opened the final frame with five quick points to push the lead to 46-36 with 8:46 remaining.
- A 3-pointer from graduate student guard Sydney Lusher (Oneida, N.Y.) cut the deficit to 46-40, but Maine answered with another 5-0 run to extend the lead to 51-40 with 4:43 to play.
- The Black Bears maintained control down the stretch to secure the 62-48 win.
