Men’s Soccer Hosts Vermont in Regular Season Finale Wednesday (7 p.m.) on OHT Night

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team will host the University of Vermont for the regular season finale on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. on Bremner Field. The game is also Operation Hat Trick Night that will include a ceremonial coin toss as well as OHT hats for sale with all proceeds benefiting Operation Hat Trick.
Prior to Wednesday's tilt, there will be a special ceremony to honor Dr. Steve and Donna Hardy, whose son, Nate Hardy, was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2008. Operation Hat Trick raises awareness and support for wounded service members and veterans through the sale of OHT branded merchandise and donates to those organizations that support OHT's mission. The program is dedicated in the memory of Nate Hardy and Mike Koch, who also lost his life while fighting for his country.
Following Wednesday's game, the field of six will be set for the America East Championships. If the Wildcats are awarded the first or second seed, they will receive a bye for the first round. If they are third or fourth, the quarterfinal game would take place at Bremner Field on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. If fifth or sixth, they will travel to the campus of either the third or fourth seed.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Wildcats are coming off a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime win over the University of Hartford on Friday, Oct. 30 at Bremner Field. Hartford took a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of play, but the Wildcats came back in the second half with a goal by senior Fazal Nabi (Portland, Maine) in the 49th minute to tie the game. In the 108th minute of play, rookie Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.) gave the Wildcats the 2-1 win with his third goal of the season. Sophomore keeper Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) made six saves in the match to backbone the Wildcats to the win.
Junior co-captain Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway) leads the squad in points as he has six goals and four assists for 16 points. Nabi is right behind Wingate as he has six goals and two assists for 14 points. Arling has three goals and five assists for 11 points while senior A.J. Albers (Eagan, Minn.) has four goals for eight points. Senior Ben Ramin (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) has seven points on three goals and an assist while classmate Connor Pauley (Londonderry, N.H.) has six points on two goals and two assists. Junior Karl Frisk (Molndal, Sweden) splits his three points on a goal and an assist.
Pesci improved his record to 3-0-0 on the year with the win over Hartford and also has two shutouts. He holds a 0.31 goals against average and a .900 save percentage. Senior keeper Ryan Carpenter (Newmarket, N.H.) holds a 7-3-3 record on the year with three shutouts. He has a goals against average of 1.01 and a save percentage of .674.
Scouting UVM: The Catamounts (8-6-3, 2-2-2 AE) are coming off of a loss against University at Albany, where the score was 3-0. Vermont gave up its first goal after a handball mistake by one of their defenders at 26:02. They then were hit with two more goals from Albany in the 36th minute and in the 62nd minute. Catamount goalkeeper Greg Walton made four saves out of the 11 shots on goal. He has a 0.703 save percentage and 1.33 goals against average. Brian Wright leads the team with 19 points and seven goals and five assists. Stefan Lamanna is second on the team with 11 points, four goals and three assists. Bernard Yeboah is third on the team for goals with three, he has one assist for the season, and he has seven points.
