Serrano Takes First As Women's Cross Country Tied Providence For First Overall

DURHAM, N.H. - Senior co-captain Chelsey Serrano (Manchester, N.H.) led the University of New Hampshire women's cross team and finished first overall in Saturday's tri-meet featuring Providence College and the College of the Holy Cross at College Woods.
The Wildcats tied the defending national champion Friars for first place with 30 points. Holy Cross followed 74 points.
Serrano was first to complete the 5K course by crossing the finish line in 17 minutes, 37 seconds. Junior Amber Short (Keene, N.H.) placed third for New Hampshire as she crossed the line with a time of 17:43.
Anne Twombly (Exeter, N.H.), another senior co-captain, finished the race with a time of 18:02 as she placed seventh. Junior Brianna Boden (Keene, N.H.) and sophomore Hannah Kimball (Atkinson, N.H.) finished consecutively in ninth and 10th with respective times of 18:09 and 18:19 to complete the team scoring.
Sophomore Alex Giese (Franklin, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 18:25 for 12th overall and was followed immediately by freshman Riley Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) at 18:27. Sophomore Cassie Kruse (Hampshire, Ill.) rounded out the UNH top 20 with a 17th-place result. She ran the course in a time of 18:43.
The team returns to action Saturday, Sept. 6 (11 a.m.) as they travel to the University of Maine for the America East Pre Conference Meet.
