Women's Cross Country Places Sixth Overall at the NCAA Northeast Regional Meet

BRONX, N.Y. –The University of New Hampshire women's cross country team placed sixth overall at the NCAA Northeast Regional Meet Friday afternoon held at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
New Hampshire recorded 183 points while Iona College notched 91 to capture the meet. A total of 40 different institutions competed in the event, bringing some of the nation's top runners and teams to the meet.
Head Coach Robert Hoppler mentioned, " Very happy with how the ladies raced today." He adds, "The squad achieved many accomplishments this year."
The 2014 Northeast Regional Meet marked the best overall finish for the squad since 1981.
Six different UNH runners ran the course in a time of 21 minutes.
Sophomore Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.), the reigning America East Conference individual champion, paced the Wildcats to a 14th place finish in a time of 20 minutes, 42 seconds.
Senior co-captain Chelsey Serrano (Manchester, N.H.) placed 30th overall (20:11). Junior Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) finished the race with same time as Serano as she followed placing 31st in the meet.
Anne Twombly (Exeter, N.H.) finished with a time of 21:28 as she took the 50th spot in the meet. Brianna Boden (Keene, N.H.) was not far behind Twombly as she placed 58th overall crossing the finish line with a time of 21:35.
Amber Short (Keene, N.H.) and Samantha Blais (Lyndeborugh, N.H.) finished 66th and 88th respectively with times of 21:42 and 21 53.
This year, the women's cross country team has been nationally ranked, tied for first against defending champions Providence College at College Woods, placed second at the Pre-America East Conference Meet and came in first at the New Englands Championship to retain the title. The team was also crowned America East Champions.
Following the meet, New Hampshire heads back to Cortlandt Park to take part in the ICAAA and ECAC Meet on Saturday, Nov. 22.
