Meghara McManus, a freshman from Milton, Mass., recorded a career-high three assists for a personal-best three points to lead the UNH women’s ice hockey team to a 5-3 victory at Yale University on Dec. 10. She is the first Wildcat to tally three assists in a game in more than three years (Oct. 5, 2013; Nicole Gifford vs. Syracuse University).
The 5-foot-4 forward tallied an assist on UNH’s first and third goals of the game to help give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead through one period of play. She also tallied an assist on UNH’s fourth goal, which proved to be the game-winning tally.
Just over a minute into the game, Meghara intercepted the puck just outside the offensive zone and advanced down the right wing deep into the circle before leaving a drop pass for Nicole Dunbar, who scored to give the ‘Cats a 1-0 lead just 77 seconds into the game.
Meghara recorded her second assist on a power-play goal with 27 seconds remaining in the first period that gave UNH a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission. After Yale trimmed the deficit to 3-1, Meghara put momentum back in UNH’s favor by setting up the first of two Wildcat goals 74 seconds apart for a 4-1 lead at 8:21 of the second stanza.
Meghara’s other stats included one shot, one blocked shot and a +2 plus/minus rating.
