BOSTON – Former University of New Hampshire men's soccer midfielder Yannick Bright (Milan, Italy) has been named the 2023-24 America East Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.
He is the second UNH student-athlete to win Male Scholar Athlete of the Year as Adam Savill of men's soccer won in 2022. The award started in 1995-96.
The America East awards a Scholar Athlete for each sport and then picks an overall Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Six UNH student-athletes have earned the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year (Elinor Purrier-2017, 2018; Laura Rose Donegan-2016; Amy DeCamp-2002; Orsi Farkas-1999; Denise Leckenby-1998).
Bright won his second straight America East Men's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year Award in February with a 3.56 GPA as a Finance major. He is a two-time member of the CSC Academic All-District Team (2022 & 2023) and a two-time member of the America East All-Academic Team (2022 & 2023). Bright was named to the 2023 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America First Team. He earned America East Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades twice (2021 & 2022) and was named to the America East Academic Honor Roll in 2020. Bright is a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society.
Bright was drafted in the first round by Inter Miami CF with the 15th overall pick in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft and has played in 14 games with one assist. He is the first player in program history to be a three-time All-American. Bright was named to the First Team in 2021 and 2023, while he was selected to the Third Team in 2022. Also this past season he was one of 15 semifinalists for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy given to the nation's top college soccer player. Bright, who was also a semifinalist in 2021, is the first player in program history to be named a semifinalist twice.
He won his third straight America East Midfielder of the Year Award this past season as he is only the second student-athlete to win the award three times. He was also named to the All-Conference First Team for the third straight season and to the All-Academic Team for the second straight year.
He had three goals and eight assists for 14 points during his career at UNH.
