Blair Makes 34 Saves in 4-0 Loss to #11 UConn

DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman goaltender Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made 34 saves but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was defeated 4-0 by 11th-ranked UConn at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Blair made 11 saves in the first period, followed by nine in the second and 14 in the third.
UConn goalie Megan Warrener stopped 20 shots to record the shutout. Kathryn Stockdale and Coryn Tormala both tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Huskies' offense. Ainsley Svetek and Megan Woodworth scored the other goals.
UNH moves to 10-12-2 overall and 7-8-2 in Hockey East. UConn is now 16-6-2 13-3-1,.

FIRST PERIOD
- UConn skated to a 3-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes on the strength of a pair of power-play goals and 14-5 shot advantage.
- Tamara Thierus (Saint Jerome, Quebec) ripped a one-time from the slot that clanged off the crossbar at 3:20.
- The Huskies struck first at 4:45 when Stockdale scored a power-play backdoor goal at the right post. Claire Peterson earned the primary assist with the diagonal pass from the left circle.
- Tormala increased the advantage to 2-0 at 14:20 when she corralled the puck in the neutral zone and circled back before entering the offensive zone on the right wing. Her close-range shot found a way past Blair across the goal line.
- UConn went back on the power play at 15:21 and capitalized on the skater advantage to build a 3-0 lead. From the right doorstep, Brooke Campbell slipped a pass through the crease to Svetek, who deposited the puck into an open net.
SECOND PERIOD
- The visitors generated a 9-6 shot advantage in the scoreless second stanza.
- UNH went on its second power play of the game at 8:08. Warrener denied a backhander off the stick of Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) and, off the rebound, stoned Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) twice at the top of the crease to keep the score 3-0 at 8:56.
THIRD PERIOD
- UConn recorded a 15-9 shot advantage in the final frame.
- Woodworth capped the scoring at 12:35.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UConn finished with the edge in shots (38-20) and faceoffs (28-13).
- UNH was credited with 10 blocks and UConn had six.
- The Wildcats were 0-for-2 on the power play. The Huskies scored on 2 of 3 power plays.

- Blair finished with 30+ saves for the eighth time this season, including three of the past four games.
- Kyla Bent (Halifax, Nova Scotia), Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario) and Thierus led all skaters with two blocks apiece.
- Truter led the 'Cats with four faceoff wins.
- Prior to UConn's power-play goals in the first period, New Hampshire's penalty kill had been perfect the previous nine games and successfully killed off 24 consecutive opponent power plays dating back to Nov. 11.
