Legro Named Captain, Martinez and Botterill Tabbed Assistant Captains For 2026-27 Season

DURHAM, N.H. — Junior defenseman Lucie Legro (Brentwood, N.H.) was named captain of the 2026-27 University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, with junior goaltender Noemi Martinez (Glen Ridge, N.J.) and junior forward Danika Botterill (Portage La Prairie, Manitoba) serving as assistant captains, as announced by 12th-year head coach Hilary Witt.
Legro appeared in all 35 games for the Wildcats last season, potting her first-collegiate goal against Assumption (Oct. 3) before earning a pair of assists to total three points. Additionally, the junior defender put 22 shots on net, blocked 27 shots, and finished with a plus-six rating, tied for fifth-best on the team.
Martinez, the 2025-26 recipient of the Colleen Coyne Award, had a breakout season between the pipes, making a career-high 16 starts in net while guiding the 'Cats to a 9-6-0 record. Posting a team-leading .927 save percentage and 2.39 goals against average, Martinez finished the season with six games of 30+ saves, including three games with 40+ saves, and 10 games having allowed two goals or fewer.
Within the conference, Martinez was tied for the sixth-best save percentage among Hockey East goaltenders with 500+ minutes played. In conference action, she closed out with a 5-4-0 record to the tune of a .926 save percentage and a 2.62 goals against average.
Additionally, Martinez's year was highlighted by a season-best 49-save performance in the Wildcats' 3-2 overtime win at No. 7 UConn (Jan. 31) and shutouts against Assumption (Oct. 4) and Maine (Feb. 14).
Botterill posted a career year with the Wildcats, notching career-highs in goals (12), assists (16), and points (28). Across the roster, Botterill paced the team in game-winning goals (3), finished second in assists, second in points, second in shooting percentage (.154), second in faceoff wins (291), tied for second in power-play goals, third in goals, tied for fourth in first goals (2), and both fourth overall and first among forwards in blocks (41).
Across Hockey East, Botterill finished the season tied for 14th in goals scored, tied for 14th in assists, and tied for 11th in points.
Appearing in all 35 games, Botterill posted a plus-one rating and logged a point in 20 different games, highlighted by her first-career three-point performance at Merrimack (Oct. 31). In total, Botterill finished the season with six multipoint appearances, including two games with three points, and logged a season-high four game point streak.
