Blair Stops 28 Shots in 2-1 Loss at #15 Northeastern

BOSTON – Freshman goaltender Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made 28 saves but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was edged 2-1 by 15th-ranked Northeastern University at Matthews Arena on Friday night.
Blair stopped eight shots in both the first and second periods and 12 more in the final frame.
Grad student forward and captain Annie Berry (Milton, Mass.) scored UNH's goal to lift the Wildcats within 2-1 at 6:40 of the first period.
NU goalie Gwyneth Philips was credited with 24 saves. Peyton Anderson and Allie Lalonde scored the NU goals.
UNH moves to 10-11-2 overall and 7-7-2 in Hockey East. NU is now 15-9-1, 9-7-1.

FIRST PERIOD
- NU scored on the first two shots of the game to build an early 2-0 lead on goals by Anderson 15 seconds into the game and Lalonde 36 seconds later.
- Sydney Leonard (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) initiated UNH's scoring sequence with a win in the left faceoff circle. She drew the puck back to Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario), whose shot from the point was blocked. At the left doorstep, Leonard pushed the puck across the crease to the right side, where Berry jammed a shot into the net to make it 2-1 at 6:40.
SECOND PERIOD
- UNH had an 11-8 shot advantage in the scoreless second stanza.
- The Wildcats won a challenge to reverse the on-ice call of a Northeastern goal at 5:02 because of goaltender interference.
THIRD PERIOD
- Northeastern generated a 12-6 shot advantage in the final frame.
- UNH called time out at 18:05 and pulled Blair in favor of an extra skater 26 seconds later.
- Brooke Hammer (Commerce Township, Mich.) was denied by Philips with 66 seconds remaining.
- The 'Cats kept the puck in the offensive zone most the of the final minute but did not get another shot on goal.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- NU recorded a 30-25 shot advantage.
- UNH had a 24-23 edge in the faceoff circle.
- The Wildcats were credited with 16 blocks and the Huskies had 13.
