Juodikis, Verrier Record Two Points Apiece in 6-3 Loss at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) and Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.) recorded two points apiece, but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was defeated 6-3 by the University of Vermont at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Friday.
Juodikis finished with a goal and an assist while Verrier tallied two assists. UNH's other goal scorers were Jada Christian (Caledon East, Ontario) and Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario).
Freshman goaltender Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was credited with 18 saves in 50:39 of action and Ava Hills (Pembroke, N.H.), in her collegiate debut, stopped the only shot she faced the final 9:21 of the game.
UVM was led by Natalie Mlynkova's three goals for the hat trick. Hailey Burns and Alaina Tanski both finished with a goal and a assist. Jesse McPherson stopped 21 shots.
UNH, which held three one-goal leads, moves to 4-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in Hockey East. Vermont, which scored all three third-period goals, is now 4-2-1, 3-0-0.

FIRST PERIOD
- UNH took a 1-0 lead on Kettyle's goal at 6:06. Juodkis skated onto a loose puck behind the next and gave it to Verrier in the left corner. Verrier feathered a backhanded pass to the left point, where Kettyle's one-time through traffic went into the net.
- Rose-Marie Brochu leveled the score, 1-1, with 47.6 seconds on the clock.
SECOND PERIOD
- The Wildcats went back in front, 2-1, 29 seconds into the middle stanza. A stretch pass from the defensive zone by Kyla Bent (Halifax, Nova Scotia) was tipped by Verrier at center ice ahead to Christian for a breakaway down the slot. From close range, Christian shot upper-right corner for the goal.
- UNH went on a power play at 3:16 but UVM's Mlynkova netted a shorthanded goal six seconds later to tie the score, 2-2.
- The power play continued for the Wildcats, however, and UNH took its third one-goal lead of the game, 3-2, on Juodikis' power-play tally at 4:28. The initial shot from the high slot by Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N.Y.) was blocked, but she corralled the puck and slid a pass to Annie Berry (Milton, Mass.) at the left faceoff circle dot. Berry advanced the puck down to the goal line to Juodikis, who carried the puck to the near post and deposited a shot into the upper-left corner.
- Mlynkova's goal at 8:49 made it 3-3.
THIRD PERIOD
- UVM scored twice in the opening 97 seconds of the final frame to quickly build a 5-3 lead. Tanski scored 56 seconds into the period to give the Catamounts their first lead of the game and Mlynkova completed her hat trick 41 seconds later.
- Burns capped the scoring at 10:39 and Hills spelled Blair in net for UNH.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UVM had the slightest of advantages in shots, 25-24, and also had a 32-24 edge in faceoffs.
- UNH went 1-for-5 on the power play with a shorthanded goal against. Vermont was 1-for-3 on the PP.
- The Catamounts blocked 15 shot attempts and UNH was credited with eight blocks.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- This was Verrier's first career multiple-assist game. It marked the fourth time she recorded a career-high two points.
- Juodikis has recorded a point in 5 of 9 games this season. She leads the team in both goals (six) and points (nine).
- Alvarez has a team-high six assists and is second with seven points.
- Bent ranks second on the team in assists (five).
- Berry has tallied an assist four of the last five games.
- Christian scored her first goal of the season and 25th career.
- Sydney Leonard (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) was the the top 'Cat with seven faceoff wins.
- Kettyle, Rae Breton (Brighton, Ontario) and Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario) all tied for the team lead with two blocks.
- Breton entered the weekend tied for the national lead with 25 blocks.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- UNH has a 37-19-8 lifetime record against UVM.
- Three of four meetings last season, including the Hockey East quarterfinal, went into overtime.
