Berry Scores OT Goal in 2-1 Loss at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Annie Berry (Milton, Mass) scored a goal and Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made 28 saves, but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was defeated 2-1 in overtime by the University of Vermont at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
Blair made four saves in overtime as UVM has a pair of power plays in the extra session to have a skater advantage for 2:14 of the 3:31 played in OT. She also had 10 saves in the first period and nine in the second to keep the Catamounts scoreless through 40 minutes.
Berry's goal tied the score, 1-1, at 13:48 of the third period.
UVM's Evelyn Blais-Savoie scored the game-winning goal off a rebound at 3:31. Natalie Mlynkova netted the Catamounts' other goal. Jesse McPherson stopped 22 shots and did not face a shot in overtime.
UNH moves to 4-5-1 overall, 2-3-1 in Hockey East and 0-2-1 in overtime. Vermont is now 5-2-1, 4-0-0.

FIRST PERIOD
- UVM recorded a 10-8 shot advantage in the scoreless opening 20 minutes.
SECOND PERIOD
- The Catamounts had a 9-7 edge in shots in the scoreless middle stanza.
THIRD PERIOD
- Mlynkova's unassisted goal at 5:45 gave the home team a 1-0 lead.
- UNH pulled even, 1-1, at 13:48 when Berry buried the puck from the front of the net. Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N.Y.) initiated the scoring sequence with a pass across the blue line from the right point. Kyla Bent (Halifax, Nova Scotia) sent the puck below the goal line, where Sydney Leonard (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) skated onto the loose puck and slipped a pass back in front to Berry.
- UVM recorded a 3-2 shot advantage the remainder of regulation but neither team broke the deadlock.
OVERTIME
- Vermont carried 1;51 of a remaining power play into the extra session.
- Blair denied Blais-Savoie at 31 seconds and Mlynkova at 53 seconds to extend the game.
- The Catamounts went back on the power play at 3:08. Blair once again deine Mlynkova at 3:29, but Blais-Savoie scored off the rebound in front to end the game at 3:31.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Vermont finished with a 30-23 shot advantage and 29-14 edge in the faceoff circle.
- The Catamounts were credited with 11 blocked shots and UNH had eight.
- New Hampshire went 0-for-2 on the power play while UVM was 1-for-4.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Bent now has five assists, which is tied for the team lead (with Alvarez).
- She recorded a game-high four blocked shots.
- Leonard has four assists and her seven points are tied atop the team leaderboard.
- Berry scored her second goal of the season.
- Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) led the 'Cats in the faceoff circle with six wins.
