Brown nets 22 points off the bench to propel the Wildcats
BANGOR, MAINE – Junior Kyree Brown (Oakland, Calif.) tallied 22 points and set two new career-high marks in rebounds and three pointers to lead the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to a Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle win over Maine, 71-58, Wednesday night at the Cross Insurance Center.
With the victory, UNH improves to 8-8 (3-1 AE) and Maine falls to 6-10 (0-3 AE).

FIRST HALF
- The Wildcats came out hot, hitting their first three shots including a three-pointer from graduate student Jaxson Baker (Phoenix, Ariz.), making the score 7-3 in the opening two minutes of the game.
- The game went back and forth for the next ten minutes with neither team being able to gain an advantage until a long-range bucket from sophomore Trey Woodyard (London, Ohio) gave the 'Cats a four-point lead, 24-20.
- Maine responded with eight unanswered points to give the Black Bears their largest lead of the half, 28-24, with just over five minutes remaining in the opening frame.
- The offense for UNH hit their stride over the final four minutes led by Brown, who scored 11 points in the final few minutes.
- Brown and Baker combined to score 14 points to spearhead a 14-2 run for the Wildcats leading to a 38-30 advantage going into the locker room.
SECOND HALF
- UNH continued their strong shooting at the start of the second half, netting their first three jump shots, two of which came from graduate student Matt Herasme (Chester, N.Y.).
- The 'Cats started the half on a 7-2 run, gaining their largest lead of the game at 45-32 with 16:40 remaining in the game.
- UNH built on their lead with six straight points from Baker himself and a layup from Brown that gave the blue-and-white a 19-point lead, 53-34 with 12:44 remaining.
- The Black Bears responded with an 8-2 run capped off by a Gedi Juozapaitis three pointer to trim the Wildcats' lead down to 55-42.
- Maine continued to build on their run with four more points before graduate student Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, N.J.) knocked down a three pointer to halt the Black Bears' momentum.
- Baker drilled his fourth shot from long-range and pushed the UNH lead back up to 63-47 with 7:18 remaining in the game.
- Maine responded once again with an 11-1 run over the next four minutes to cut the 'Cats lead down to 64-58 with just over three minutes left in the game.
- Strong defense, a layup from Johnson, and a plethora of free throws carried UNH to the finish line as the Wildcats secured the victory, 71-58.
NOTEWORTHY
- UNH improves to 79-123 all-time when matching up with Maine. The 'Cats have won the last two meetings as well as three of the last four.
- This was the first win at the Cross Insurance Center since Jan. 19, 2017.
- Brown netted a career-high four three-pointers and six rebounds in the win.
- Browns' 22 points are the most off the bench for a Wildcat since Qon Murphy scored 26 at Stony Brook on Feb. 7, 2022.
- Johnson tallied his seventh consecutive game in double figures, the longest streak of his career and the longest active streak for a Wildcat.
- This was Johnsons' third double-double of his career and second on the season.
- With his lone 3-pointer, Herasme has now scored from long range in 15 of the 16 games he's played this season.
- Baker tallied a season-high 15 points and matched his season-best tally of four three pointers.
- Baker has now hit 3+ three-pointers in five games this year to lead the team.
- The Wildcats are currently tied atop the America East standings at 3-1 with UMass Lowell.
