‘Cats Lose Close One to Bryant in Conference Play, 87-81

DURHAM, N.H. – Juniors Clarence Daniels (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Nick Johnson (Bronx, N.Y.) each surpassed the 20-point mark in an 87-81 loss against Bryant Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium.
With the loss, UNH falls to 8-9 (3-2 AE) and Bryant improves to 12-6 (3-2 AE).

FIRST HALF
- The Bulldogs got off to a strong start making four of their first six field goal attempts in the opening three minutes of the game to take an 11-4 lead.
- Both teams traded buckets over the next few minutes until a three pointer from Daniels cut the deficit down to one point, making it 19-18 with 11:54 remaining in the half.
- Bryant answered the 'Cats' run with a run of their own, outscoring UNH 11-4 over the next five minutes to build their lead back up to 30-22.
- A three-pointer from graduate student Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, N.J.) cut the Bryant lead to five points, but the Bulldogs responded with a 13-6 run to build their largest lead of the game 43-31 with just under two minutes left in the half.
- UNH closed the gap to single digits heading into the break, 44-36 after Derry netted a driving layup with one second left in the half.
- Bryants' Sherif Gross-Bullock led the Bulldogs with 15 points on 5 of 6 shooting in the first half while Daniels tallied 13 points and five rebounds for the 'Cats.
SECOND HALF
- Bryant and UNH combined to miss the first five shot attempts of the second half before the Bulldogs broke through, netting five consecutive shots with the 'Cats going toe to toe to keep the game close, 57-51 with 13:11 remaining.
- Bryant gained a 10-point lead with 09:59 remaining in the game before the Wildcats scored seven unanswered points in the next 57 seconds to close the gap to just three points, 68-65.
- The Bulldogs would push their edge back up to eight points,75-67, with 7:03 remaining after Gross-Bullock scored his game-high 28th point.
- UNH cut the deficit to just one point, 75-74, with 4:36 left in the game after Johnson scored seven consecutive points for the Wildcats.
- Bryant would score the next four points before a long-range bucket from Derry trimmed the Bulldog lead back down to two points, 79-77.
- UNH was outscored 8-4 in the final two minutes of the game, falling to Bryant 87-81.
NOTEWORTHY
- With the loss, UNH is now 4-7 all-time when matching up with Bryant. The 'Cats are now 3-3 when hosting the Bulldogs at Lundholm Gym.
- Bryant is now 1-0 against UNH as America East opponents.
- Johnson tallied his eighth consecutive game in double figures, the longest streak of his career and the longest active streak for a Wildcat.
- Johnson scored a career-high 21 points, 14 of which came in the second half of the game.
- This was Daniels' team-leading eighth double-double of this season, tied for the 11th most in Div. 1.
- Daniels now has three games to his credit scoring 20+ points and recording 10+ rebounds to lead the team.
- With his lone 3-pointer, graduate student Matt Herasme (Chester, N.Y.) has now scored from long range in 16 of the 17 games he's played this season.
- Johnson recorded his fourth game of the season with 3+ steals, the most such games on the team.
- Bryant led for 39:03, never trailing in the game.
