Wildcats Fall to Vermont; O’Neill Sets Career-High in Rebounds

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell to Vermont, 79-59, Thursday night from Patrick Gymnasium.
Junior guard Jawarie Hamelin (Westerly, R.I.) recorded a season-high of 12 points, freshman guard Khalil Badru (New Britain, Conn.) added 11 points, and freshman forward Jon O'Neill (Kaukauna, Wis.) tallied a career-high of nine rebounds for the 'Cats.
The Wildcats fall to 6-20 (4-7 AE).

- Vermont scored seven straight points to start the game. Junior guard Sami Pissis (Paris, France) faded away from the corner to knock down a three-pointer and combat the fast Catamount start (7-3).
- Halfway through the first 20 minutes, Vermont led UNH 27-18. Badru brought the deficit back to seven after floating in a hook shot.
- The Catamounts went on a 22-12 run to finish out the first half and go into the locker room up 49-30.
- Hamelin led the Wildcats in scoring with seven points and four assists. Seven of nine Wildcats found the bottom of the net.

- Hamelin continued his success from the first half by laying in the first points of the second half. Vermont responded with seven straight points.
- The Wildcats were unable to complete a comeback as the Catamount offense was too much to handle.
- A Hamelin three-pointer with just over five minutes remaining secured his season-high of 12 points.

- The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 to host UMass Lowell (1 p.m., ESPN+).
