Sami Pissis’ 24 Points Not Enough as Wildcats Fall to Maine on Senior Night

Khalil Badru Posts Career-High Five Steals
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell to Maine, 73-66, Thursday night at Lundholm Gymnasium.
Junior guard Sami Pissis (Paris, France) led the scoring 'Cats with 24 points, marking his 11th game with 20 or more points. Freshman guard Khalil Badru (New Britain, Conn.) followed that up with 12 points and led the team with a career-high five steals. Sophomore forward Davide Poser (Veneto, Italy) was also able to get into double digits, scoring 10 points.
The Wildcats fall to 8-22 (6-9 AE).

- Both teams started slow out of the gate, but junior guard Pissis started the scoring for the 'Cats, banking in a three. Maine had a 7-5 lead at the first media timeout with 15:35 left in the half.
- UNH kept the game close over the next four minutes and tied it up at 13. Junior guard Anthony McComb III (Dayton, Ohio) got on the board with a three, and Pissis kept his scoring going by making another three.
- Highlighted by a three from Poser and back-to-back dunks from Badru (New Britain, Conn.), the 'Cats take a two-point lead at the media timeout, with 7:28 to go in the first half (24-22 UNH).
- The 'Cats tried their best to keep up, but Maine took an eight-point lead going into halftime (38-30 UMaine).

- The 'Cats came out strong in the second half, cutting the deficit down to three points, highlighted by a three from Poser. Maine leads 42-39 at the first media timeout with 14:45 left in the game.
- Maine didn't let the 'Cats get any closer, taking a nine-point lead over the next three minutes. Maine now leads 53-44, with 11:59 left in the game.
- Over the next 10 minutes, Maine kept their distance, leading 65-57 with 2:19 left in the game. Pissis has been able to keep the Black Bears from getting far, scoring five more points as well as another four points from Badru.
- Maine didn't relinquish their lead and kept their distance, defeating the 'Cats 73-66.

- The Wildcats return to action for the regular season finale on Tuesday, March 4, at Bryant (7 p.m., ESPN+).
