Men’s Soccer Celebrates Historic Season and Hands Out Team Awards

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team held its annual banquet and announced its 2021 team awards. The team earned its fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating North Carolina, 4-1, in the second round.
Bright had an outstanding season and was named the New England Soccer Journal Division I Player of the Year and the America East Midfielder of the Year. He earned first team All America honors and was one of the 15 semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is awarded to the nation's top college soccer player. Bright started in all 21 games this season tallying three assists and three points.
HARVEY JOHNSON MOST INSPIRATIONAL PLAYER AWARD
Savill was named 2021 America East Men's Scholar Athlete of the Year holding a 3.76 GPA as an MBA student. He was one of only three student-athletes in the country to earn First-Team All-America and First Team Scholar All-America awards. He also earned America East Defender of the Year. Savill played in 19 games with 19 starts and led the defense to the nation's top team goals against average of 0.466. Savill tallied three assists for three points.
LUCAS CURRIER AWARD
Goldman received the Lucas Currier Award which is given to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of Lucas Currier, a member of the team with the will to overcome all obstacles and has a never-ending pursuit of excellence.
MIKE VENETO GOLDEN BOOT AWARD
Showunmi earned the Golden Boot Award by leading the team with 10 goals. He also had three assists and posted a team-best of 23 points. He was a Third Team All-American and the 2021 America East Striker of the Year. Showunmi was drafted by Atlanta United FC in the third round as the 88th overall pick in the 2022 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. Showunmi is the third player in program history to be drafted in the MLS SuperDraft.
H. RICHARD SANDLER ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Bennett, Hicks and Blackwell were outstanding in the classroom all holding a 4.0 GPA this fall.
COACHES AWARD
Pinkham won the Coaches Award which is voted on by the coaching staff. Pinkham appeared in 18 out of the 21 games and recorded a goal against UMBC. He also tallied two assists in the second round of the NCAA Tournament versus North Carolina.
WALTER WEILAND MOST DEDICATED PLAYER AWARD
Madden appeared in eight games this season. With a 3.77 GPA, a double major in Sport Management and Leadership and Spanish, Madden won the America East Elite 18 Award for having the highest cumulative grade point average of anyone in the America East Championship versus Vermont.
GLENN ABORN MOST IMPROVED PLAYER AWARD
Koleilat was named to the 2021 United Soccer Coaches All-Northeast Region First Team. He ranked second in the nation with a goal against average of .427, was 10th with eight shutouts and ranked fourth in nation with a save percentage of .826. Koleilat did not allow more than one goal in any game this season. The Wildcats went 17-2-2 (7-0-1 America East) during a historic 2021 season that featured program records for wins (17) and winning percentage (.857). UNH also earned its highest national ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Poll at No. 4 on Oct. 12, 2021. The Wildcats advanced to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history, falling at No. 1 seed Oregon State, 1-0. UNH earned the No. 16 seed and received a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season and defeated North Carolina, 4-1, in the second round at Wildcat Stadium. UNH led the nation with a .466 team goals against average. The Wildcats' .857 winning percentage was fifth in the country, while their 47 goals scored were ranked 10th.
Senior Class: O'Neil Smith-Elias, Victor Menudier, Jacob Gould, Linus Fallberg, Adam Savill, Ladd-Patrick Fagerson
