MacEachern Records Three Points in 13-10 Loss to Binghamton

Bearcats storm out of lightning delay, outscore Wildcats 4-1 in last 8:43
DURHAM, N.H.- Freshman Mackenzie MacEachern (Bedford, N.H.) and senior Julia Neyland (Boxborough, Mass) recorded three points apiece, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team lost 13-10 to Binghamton University on Wednesday afternoon at Tucker Field.
There was a lightning delay with 8:43 remaining in the second half and the score tied 9-9. Binghamton scored four goals in as many minutes out of the break to build a 13-9 advantage.
MacEachern recorded her first career points with two goals and an assist, while Neyland tallied two assists and a goal. Sophomore Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.) also scored two goals, both in the first half. Senior Elizabeth Blanding (Pittsford, N.Y.) was the third Wildcat to score two goals on the day.
Junior goalie Issy Torres (Elmhurst, Ill.) had four saves in each half for a total of eight saves.
Binghamton was led offensively by Paige Volkmann, with a game-high seven points (4g, 3a), Jesse Barer (3g), and Madison Murphy (2g, 1a). Bearcats' goalie Taylor Passuello was credited with nine saves.
UNH dropped to 3-5 on the season and 2-4 in America East, and is scheduled to return to action April 24 (6p.m.) against the Vermont Catamounts at home. Vermont is 4-5 on the season and 4-3 in America East.
Binghamton improved to 3-3 both overall and in the conference.

- Volkmann scored her 18th goal of the season and first of the game at 28:39.
- The second goal of the game was scored by Binghamton's Jamie Golderman for her fifth of the year at 22:25 and was assisted by Volkmann.
- UNH's Dunn put the Wildcats on the board with her free-position goal, which was her 14th goal of the year, at 17:43.
- MacEachern found the back of the net at 14:50 for her first collegiate goal and first collegiate point to tie the game at 2-2.
- Forty-two seconds later at 14:08, Blanding scored an unassisted goal for her sixth goal of the season as UNH scored its third consecutive goal to take the lead 3-2.
- Barer tied the game at 3-3 with her second goal of the season, which was assisted by Murphy at 11:15.
- UNH retakes the lead, 4-3, at 7:07 on a goal by MacEachern for her second goal of the game.
- Senior captain Rylee Leonard (Coventry, R.I.) found the back of the net for the 11th time this season at 6:01 to extend the advantage to 6-4.
- Madison Murphy cut UNH's lead to one goal when she scored a free-position goal at 5:24.
- UNH closes the first half with Dunn's player-up goal at 2:18 that was set up by Neyland.
- After being down 2-0, UNH outscored Binghamton 6-2 to close the half.
Second Half
- To open the second half, senior Gabby Masseur (Nashua, N.H.) found the back of the net at 26:47 for her first goal of the season, which was assisted by Leonard and give the Wildcats their largest lead of the game, 7-4.
- Murphy finished a feed from Volkmann at 25:57 to cut UNH's lead down to a two-goal differential.
- Barer cut the lead to one by scoring on a free-position shot at 24:29 for her third second goal of the game.
- Freshman Kailee Woods (Rocky Point, N.Y.), off Neyland's pass, found the back of the net at 22:28 for the second time this season to give the Wildcats an 8-6 lead.
- At 20:31, Kristen Scheidel scored on a free position to ignite a 3-0 run.
- Rebecca Korn tied the game, 8-8, at 19:47 and Volkmann struck again at 14:16 to put Binghamton back in front, 9-8.
- Blanding tied the game with her seventh goal of the season at 12:12.
- Following the lightning delay at 8:43, Hayley Weltner set up Korn at 7:21 to give the Bearcats their first lead since 2-0.
- Volkmann scored a free-position goal at 5:46. UNH won the ensuing draw control but immediately lost possession to Volkmann, who advanced down the middle of the field and scored at 5:32 to give the visitors a 12-9 advantage.
- Barer's tally at 4:16 pushed the margin to four goals.
- Neyland, off a pass from MacEachern, put the ball in the back of the net at 2:25 to cap the scoring.
Game Notebook
- UNH recorded the 29-23 shot advantage and committed one fewer turnover (17-18).
- Binghamton edged the Wildcats in shots on goal (21-19), free position shots (11-4) and ground balls (12-11).
- Both teams finished with 12 draw controls.
- UNH was successful on 19 of 19 clear attempts; Binghamton was 16-for-18.

- Leonard extended her point streak to 24 games with her two-point effort. She has 44 goals and 31 assists for 75 points (3.13 per game) during the streak.
- MacEachern scored her first career collegiate goals and had a career-high three points.
- Masseur scored her first goal of the season.
- Neyland matched her career high of two assists. She had a team high nine shots, five of which were shots on goal.
- Junior Taylor Dudek (Amherst, N.H.) caused three turnovers.
- Dudek and Neyland were two of the four 'Cats with two ground balls. The others were senior captain Tatum Benesh (Horseheads, N.Y.) and junior Meghan Doyle (Pittsford, N.Y.).
- Freshman Olivia O'Connor (Hopkinton, Mass.) had a team high four draw controls.
- This was UNH's first home loss of the season; the 'Cats are 2-0 at Wildcat Stadium and 0-1 at Tucker Field.
Series Notebook
- UNH has a lifetime record of 17-2 against Binghamton, which has won two of the last three matchups.
- New Hampshire prevailed 12-10 at Wildcat Stadium in 2019.
