THE MATCHUP
New Hampshire and Holy Cross face off in the 2021 Hockey East Championship opening round on Thursday, Feb. 25 at the Whittemore Center. Game time is 7 p.m. It's the 10th meeting between the programs and first postseason matchup. UNH won the first nine meetings spanning October 2017 to December 2020, but the Crusaders won the most recent game, 5-2 in Worcester, Mass. on Dec. 30, 2020.
TOURNEY TIME
UNH is making its 18th appearance in the 19-year history of the Hockey East tournament. The Wildcats won four consecutive tourney titles spanning the 2006-09 seasons and are making their ninth straight league tournament appearance in 2021. New Hampshire has a 14-18 all-time record in Hockey East postseason play that includes 4-1 at home. The 'Cats won the title on home ice in '07 and '09, and most recently lost 5-4 in overtime to Providence College in the 2014 quarterfinals (Hockey East adopted the best-of-3 quarterfinal format in '15).
NATIONAL LEADERBOARD
Redshirt junior goalie Ava Boutilier enters the week ranked No. 2 in the nation in saves (480), No. 3 in minutes played (1051:55) and tied at No. 4 in shutouts (four).
GAME RECAP: Dec. 30, 2020
WORCESTER, Mass. – Charli Kettyle recorded a goal and an assist but UNH was defeated 5-2 by Holy Cross on Wednesday night at Hart Center Rink. Kettyle scored her first career goal and recorded her first multiple-point game. UNH goaltender Ava Boutilier finished with 25 saves and four goals allowed.
Holy Cross goalie Jada Brennon stopped 49 shots with 12 saves in the first period, 16 in the second and 21 in the third. The offense, which went 3-for-3 on the power play, was led by Millie Sirum (2g, 1a) and Bryn Saarela (1g, 2a).
HC built a 2-0 lead despite being outshot 12-11 in the first period. The Crusaders extended the advantage to 3-0 at 9:48 of the second stanza, but Kettyle scored 31 seconds later to once again make it a two-goal margin.
UNH recorded a 22-13 shot advantage in the final frame but was outscored 2-1, including an empty-net power-play tally with 15 seconds remaining. HC pushed the lead to 4-1 at 11:13. Jada Christian struck at 14:57 to lift the Wildcats within 4-2.

DURHAM, N.H. - Chavonne Truter and Nicole Kelly both scored two goals to propel UNH to a 6-2 win against Holy Cross on Wednesday afternoon at the Whittemore Center. Three other Wildcats recorded multiple points: Rae Breton tallied three assists; Avery Myers recorded a goal and an assist; and Lauren Martin finished with two assists.
Following a scoreless first period, UNH netted goals at 2:35, 5:13, 8:14 and 16:50 of the second period to build a 4-0 lead. The Wildcats pushed the advantage to 6-0 with third-period goals at 4:40 and 7:40. HC avoided the shutout with late goals 18 seconds apart (18:10 and 18:28.
