Boutilier Makes 38 Saves in 4-1 Loss at #3 Northeastern

BOSTON – Redshirt junior Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) made 38 saves but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was defeated 4-1 by third-ranked Northeastern University on Sunday evening at Matthews Arena.
Boutilier stopped 15 shots in the second period and 16 more in the third as part of her 38-save effort, which is second this season to her 39 saves Jan. 8 at Northeastern. Avery Myers (Fargo, N.D.) netted UNH's goal.
NU goalie Aerin Frankel was credited with 20 saves. Alina Mueller (two assists) was the only skater with multiple points.
UNH is now 6-13-1, including 2-5-1 against nationally-ranked teams. NU is 15-1-1, including 3-0-1 against the Wildcats.
FIRST PERIOD

FIRST PERIOD
- Northeastern recorded a 7-6 shot advantage in the scoreless opening 20 minutes.
- Redshirt junior Paige Rynne (Ancaster, Ontario) ripped a shot from the left point that beat Frankel but ricocheted off the near post to keep the game scoreless at 8:26.
- NU's Peyton Anderson corralled a pass alone between the faceoff circles, advanced toward the left post and dangled across the crease. A sprawling effort by Boutilier forced Anderson to push a shot wide off the post at 10:45.
- UNH went on the first power play of the game at 11:08, and an Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario) wrister through traffic from the high slot was gloved by Frankel.
- The Huskies went on an abbreviated power play of 92 seconds at 13:08 but were held without a shot by UNH's penalty kill unit.
- Boutilier made a series of saves against Maureen Murphy, Mueller and Abbey Marohn with two minutes on the clock.
- The Wildcats went back on the power play at 18:37 and Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario) was denied at the left post with 19 seconds remaining.
SECOND PERIOD
- Northeastern generated a 16-6 shot advantage and scored the only goal of the second period.
- NU's Alina Mueller collected a loose puck in the neutral zone for a shorthanded breakaway 30 seconds into the stanza, but Boutilier's glove knocked the puck high over the cage.
- The Huskies converted their second power play of the game into a 1-0 lead on Skyler Fontaine's goal at 4:49.
- Boutilier made three saves in the next minute to keep the margin at one goal and then denied Murphy, who advanced with speed through the left circle, at 7:14.
- NU outshot the 'Cats 2-0 during New Hampshire's power play that started at 7:32.
- Moments after the Huskies' penalty expired, the home team generated a 4-on-1 rush and Veronika Pettey was stoned by Boutilier at 9:50.
- In transition, a drop pass found Rynne in the high slot and she blasted a slap shot that was blockered down by Frankel.
- With just under a minute remaining in the second period, Jada Christian (Caledon East, Ontario) powered toward the right post but Frankel was in position for the save.
THIRD PERIOD
- NU tallied a 19-9 shot advantage in the final 20 minutes.
- It remained a one-goal game until the Huskies broke it open with three goals in less than three minutes at 9:42, 10:47 and 12:28.
- Myers won possession in the left corner and slipped a passed behind the end line to Ciara Wall (Hampton, N.H.). Wall sent a return pass to Myers cutting to the net and she went upper-shelf to make it 4-1 at 16:25.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire has scored five of the nine goals allowed by Frankel this season. That's five goals for the 'Cats in 245 minutes in comparison to four goals yielded by Frankel in 11 other games.
- Boutilier increased her career saves total to 2,303, which ranks second in program history. Jen Huggon holds the benchmark of 2,851.
- Boutilier is No. 4 in career minutes at 4984:13; third on the list is Alicia Roberts at 6526:33.
- Myers has three goals the past three games and four on the season, which is tied for third on the team.
- Wall has six points, all on assists. She is tied for third on the team in assists.
- UNH blocked 22 shots. Rickwood had a team-high five, followed by Maddie Truax (Gardner, Mass.) with four. The duo ranks 1-2 this season in blocks with 48 and 40, respectively.
- Christian finished with a team-high four shots.
- Lauren Martin (Cambridge, Ontario) was the top 'Cat in the faceoff circle with 10 wins in 20 draws.
- UNH went 0-for-4 on the power play. NU scored on 1 of 4 power plays.
