Stony Brook Pulls Away in Fourth Quarter for 64-41 Win

DURHAM, N.H. – Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) recorded 11 points and six rebounds to pace the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team, but the Wildcats were upended 64-41 by Stony Brook University on Sunday afternoon at Lundholm Gym.
SBU was led offensively by Anastasia Warren (13 points) and Nairimar Vargas-Reyes (10).
UNH, which took Game 1 of the weekend series 52-49 on Saturday, is now 4-9 overall and 4-6 in America East. Stony Brook raced out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back to improve to 6-4, 4-2.

First Quarter
- The Seawolves scored a pair of transition layups less than a minute into the game to quickly build a 4-0 lead, and three more layups pushed the advantage to 10-0 at 7:27.
- UNH inched within 15-10 on a 3-pointer by Héléna Dellaruelle (Eghien-les-Bains, France) at 3:49.
- SBU led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter on the strength of 8-for-13 (61.5%) shooting from the floor and nine Wildcat turnovers.
Second Quarter
- Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) hit a 3-pointer to lift the 'Cats within 21-15 at 8:01.
- Stony Brook scored the next six points to reestablish a double-digit lead, 27-15, at 6:25.
- The Seawolves closed the quarter on a 5-0 spurt to build a 32-18 advantage heading into halftime.
Third Quarter
- UNH outscored the visitors 17-16 in the third quarter by shooting 50 percent (6-for-12) while limiting the Seawolves to 35.3 percent (6 of 17).
- The Wildcats opened the second half on a 10-3 run to trim the deficit to 35-28 at 5:49; Gogolin hit back-to-back layups and Adara Groman (Hopkinton, Mass.) made a 3-pointer to fuel the surge.
- SBU pushed the advantage back to double digits, 48-35, by ending the quarter on a 6-1 run.
Fourth Quarter
- The Seawolves pulled away with a 14-0 run spanning seven minutes that extended the margin to 64-37 with two minutes remaining.
Game Notebook
- SBU shot 50 percent (23 of 46) for the game in comparison to UNH's 34.1 percent (15 of 44).
- Stony Brook attempted 26 free throws; UNH had six.
- The Seawolves outscored the 'Cats 36-14 in the paint.
- UNH's 25 turnovers were converted into 30 points. The 'Cats scored 16 points off SBU's 19 turnovers.
- Stony Brook finished with a 34-23 rebounding advantage, and the 15-10 edge on the offensive glass led to a 12-7 edge in second chance points.
UNH Notebook
- New Hampshire recorded 11 assists on 15 field goals.
- This marked the fifth time this season Gogolin led the 'Cats in points; it was also the fifth time she was the top rebounder.
- Gogolin has led UNH in both scoring and rebounding twice.
- Torres finished with a team-high three assists. She has been the top Wildcat in that stat six times in 13 games.
- Torres also had a team-best two steals and has led UNH in that stat 10 times.

- UNH has a 27-20 lifetime record against Stony Brook following this weekend split.
Looking Ahead
- New Hampshire is scheduled to return to action Jan. 23-24 at UAlbany.
