DeChent Nets 28 in 69-57 Loss at BC

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) scored a game-high 28 points but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was defeated 69-57 by Boston College on Thursday afternoon at Conte Forum.
DeChent matched her career high with a team-high nine rebounds and she also had four steals. Senior forward Camryn Fauria (North Attleborough, Mass.) was the other Wildcat who scored in double digits with 11 points.
BC was led offensively by the duo of Lily Carmody (21 points) and Teionni McDaniel (20). Both Eagles also finished with four steals and two assists.
Both teams now have a 1-1 record.

FIRST QUARTER
- DeChent's layup gave UNH a 4-2 lead at 8:19. She scored UNH's first nine points of the game as BC led 13-9 at the media timeout at 4:52.
- The Eagles extended the advantage to 18-11 before Katie Ledden's (Clark, N.J.) jumper beat the buzzer.
SECOND QUARTER
- BC extended the advantage to 21-13 at 7:55.
- Back-to-back 3-pointers by DeChent and Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) lifted UNH within 21-19 at 4:28.
- Lucia Melero Sabat (Barcelona, Spain) made a pair of free throws at 3:23 to tie the score, 21-21 and a layup by Cavanaugh knotted the score at 23 at 2:49.
- BC ended the half on a 5-1 run to take a 28-24 lead into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
- DeChent made a 3-pointer to lift the 'Cats within 37-34 at 5:04.
- Fauria's layup made it a two-point game, 39-37, at 2:24 and DeChent made two more foul shots to level the score, 39-39, with 32 seconds on the clock.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Fauria put UNH back in front, 42-39, with a 3-pointer 36 seconds into the fourth quarter.
- UNH took a 44-42 lead on a DeChent layup at 8:10 but BC went on an 18-6 spurt to surge in front, 60-48.
- The Wildcats trimmed the deficit to 10 points three times the rest of the way but were not able to get withing single digits.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- DeChent was nearly half UNH's offensive production; she scored 28 of 57 points, made 9 of 19 field goals, 3 of 6 3-pointers and 7 of 13 free throws.
- Kenzie Matulonis (Raynham, Mass.) had a game-high four assists.
- Ledden was credited with a career-high two blocks.
- Cavanaugh finished with seven points on a perfect shooting day: 2-for-2 from the floor, including a 3-pointer, and 2-for-2 at the foul line.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UNH's .397 field goal percentage was slightly higher than BC's .375.
- Points in the paint were even at 26.
