UNH Edged 68-60 at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) and sophomore guard Elizabeth Lavoie(Hampstead, N.H.) led the Wildcats with 15 and 10 points, respectively, but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was edged 68-60 by Brown University at Pizzitola Sports Center on Tuesday night.
DeChent also had four assists, two rebounds and a block while Lavoie led the Wildcats with a career-high seven rebounds. Junior guard Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) finished with nine points, five assists, a steal and a block. Senior forward Lucia Melero Sabat (Barcelona, Spain) scored a season-high nine points.
Alyssa Moreland led Brown with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds – she also had five steals and two blocks – while Grace Arnolie finished with 14 points and five assists.
UNH is now 2-5 and the Bears improve to 4-2.

FIRST QUARTER
- Carolina Williams (Valatie, N.Y.) scored the first points of the game on a 3-pointer and Cavanaugh's 3-pointer gave the Wildcats a 6-4 lead at 6:33.
- UNH remained in front until Moreland's layup tied the score, 14-14, with one minute on the clock.
- Lavoie connected from behind the 3-point line on the next possession, however, to give the 'Cats a 17-14 lead through 10 minutes on the strength of 66.7 percent shooting from the floor (6-9) that included 3 of 5 on 3-pointers.
SECOND QUARTER
- UNH continued its hot shooting in the second quarter by hitting 7 of 11 field goals to build a double-digit advantage.
- DeChent's three-point play at 8:21 extended the Wildcats' run to 7-0 at the start of the quarter and 10-0 overall to give the visitors a 24-14 lead.
- After Brown inched within 27-20, Kenzie Matulonis (Raynham, Mass.) made a 3-ball from the left corner to reestablish a double-digit margin, 30-20, at 4:57.
- Melero Sabat's layup gave UNH its largest lead of the half – 12 points – at 34-22 with 2:55 left in the first half.
- DeChent made a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining in the half to send New Hampshire into the locker room with a 36-24 advantage.
THIRD QUARTER
- Brown pulled within 40-32 at 5:54 before Melero Sabat made another field goal at the rim to make it a 10-point cushion, 42-32, at 4:34.
- The Bears made it a one-possession game, 45-42, on Moreland's layup at 1:14.
- Cavanaugh hit a pair of foul shots with 38 seconds on the clock and blocked a shot in the closing seconds to give UNH at 47-42 lead through 30 minutes.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Brown trimmed the deficit to one point, 49-48, at 7:03 before Lavoie hit another 3-pointer to advance the score to 52-48 at 5:36.
- Olivia Young's three-point play tied the score, 54-54, at 4:34 and Arnolie's layup gave the Bears a 56-54 lead at 3:49 to mark their first lead since 4-3.
- Cavanaugh's no-look pass set up Camry Fauria (North Attleborough, Mass.) for a layup and tie score, 56-56, at 3:10.
- Brown scored the next four points as part of a 7-2 run to take a 63-58 lead with 1:17 remaining.
- Cavanaugh's jumper lifted the 'Cats withing four points, 64-60, with 33 seconds to play.
- The Bears went 4-f0r-4 from the foul line the rest of the way to secure the win.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Alia Corndone (Davis, Calif.) scored a career-high seven points and matched her high of three rebounds in 10 minutes of play. She shot 3-for-4 from the floor, including 1 of 2 on 3-pointers.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire held the lead for 33 minutes, 54 seconds (85%) in comparison to Brown's 3:49 (9.5%).
