DeChent Nets 18 Points in Loss at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) scored a team-high 18 points but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was defeated 64-45 by College of the Holy Cross at Hart Center on Sunday afternoon.
DeChent shot 50 percent from the floor (8-for-16) and her other stats included two steals and two blocks.
Junior guard Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) recorded season highs of 10 points and six rebounds; she also had four assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Elizabeth Lavoie (Hampstead, N.H.) finished with eight points seven rebounds.
Meg Cahalan led Holy Cross with a game-high 20 points in addition to six rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Janie Bachman (13) and Kaitlyn Flanagan (11) also scored in double digits for the Crusaders.
UNH is now 2-6 and Holy Cross improves to 3-4.

FIRST QUARTER
- Lavoie hit a 3-pointer from the left corner on UNH's first possession of the game to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
- DeChent's layup gave the Wildcats a 5-4 lead at 5:42 but the 'Cats were outscored 18-0 the rest of the quarter as Holy Cross led 22-5 through 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
- A free throw by Alia Cordone (Davis, Calif.) at 7:37 ended the HC run at 22 consecutive points.
- The lead grew to 29 points, 35-6, before Katie Ledden (Clark, N.J.) made a layup at 4:06.
- Holy Cross led 38-13 at halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
- UNH outscored the hosts 18-15 in the third quarter.
- The Wildcats closed on a 16-6 run in the last 3:30 of the quarter. DeChent scored six points and Cavanaugh netted five during the spurt.
FOURTH QUARTER
- New Hampshire outscored Holy Cross 14-11 in the fourth quarter.
- DeChent scored nine consecutive UNH points in a five-minute span.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Lavoie recorded a career-high seven rebounds for the second consecutive game.
- Cordone pulled down a career-high six rebounds.
- DeChent matched her personal best of two blocks.
