DeChent Scores Season-High 31 Points in 89-79 Loss at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) recorded 31 points and nine rebounds but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was defeated 89-79 by Colgate University at Cotterell Court on Monday Night.
The 31 points marked a season high for DeChent, who matched her personal best of nine rebounds for the second consecutive game. Sophomore guard Elizabeth Lavoie (Hampstead, N.H.) scored a season-high 17 points while senior forward Camryn Fauria (North Attleborough, Mass.) was the second Wildcat who almost recorded a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds. Fauria also had two assists, two blocks and a steal.
Colgate was led by Ella Meabon's 35 points and 11 rebounds.
UNH moves to 1-2 overall while the Raiders are 3-0.

FIRST QUARTER
- Colgate raced out to a 15-2 lead at 5:50.
- The Raiders maintained a double-digit lead until DeChent's layup at 1:02 lifted the 'Cats within 20-11.
- Fauria beat the shot clock and end of the first quarter with a putback to advance the score to 22-13 through 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
- With UNH trailing 26-15, Lavoie made a layup, DeChent followed with a layup and then stole the ball with a basket at the rim to lift the Wildcats within 26-21 at 6:46.
- Another driving layup by DeChent trimmed the deficit to two points, 28-26, at 4:48.
- Colgate responded with an 8-2 run before DeChent connected from long range to make it 36-31 at 2:00.
- Fauria made a pair of free throws at 1:15 to pull the 'Cats within 38-35 but the Raiders scored the last four points of the quarter to take a 42-35 advantage into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
- Colgate's Amarah Streiff and Abbey Ferguson hit 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to quickly extend the difference to double digits, 50-39, at 6:38.
- UNH answered with an 8-2 spurt capped by Lavoie's layup to advance the score to 52-47 at 3:56.
- The Raiders extended the lead back to double digits, 67-54. Fauria made two foul shots with nine seconds on the clock, but Ella Mahaffey hit a 3-pointer from the right corner to give the home team a 14-point lead, 70-56, through three quarters.
FOURTH QUARTER
- The margin grew to 19 points, 77-58, on Tatiania Matthews' layup at 7:27.
- With bench players on the court for both teams, UNH trimmed an 81-60 deficit to single digits, 85-76, on Lavoie's layup with 1:21 to play but the 'Cats would get no closer the rest of the way.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- DeChent has totals of 59 points and 18 rebounds the past two games.
- Monday at Colgate, she made 10 of 16 field goals attempts, including 2 of 3 from 3-point range, and was 9-for-12 at the foul line.
- Lavoie's 17 points was one less than her career high of 18 established last December against Stonehill.
- Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) had a team-high three assists to complement her eight points.
- Fauria recorded two blocks in a game for the first time this season and third time in her career.
