Kettyle Tallies Two Points in 5-2 Loss at Holy Cross

Kettyle scored her first career goal and recorded her first multiple-point game. UNH goaltender Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) finished with 25 saves and four goals allowed.
Holy Cross goalie Jada Brennon stopped 49 shots with 12 saves in the first period, 16 in the second and 21 in the third. The offense was led by Millie Sirum (two goals, one assist) and Bryn Saarela (one goal, two assists).
UNH moves to 3-7-0 overall and 3-7-0 in Hockey East. Holy Cross, which avenged last Wednesday's 6-2 road loss to the Wildcats, improved to 3-5-0 both overall and in the league.
New Hampshire is scheduled to return to action Jan. 8 (4:30 p.m.) at Northeastern University. The Wildcats' next home game is Jan. 9 against NU.

FIRST PERIOD SUMMARY
- Holy Cross built a 2-0 lead despite being outshot 12-11 in the first period.
- Sirum netted a power-play goal at 12:29 to end UNH's streak of 19 consecutive successful penalty kills. Boutilier stopped two shots before Sirum put in the second rebound.
- Saarela scored with 40 seconds remaining in the period.
SECOND PERIOD SUMMARY
- UNH went on the power play at 2:47 and strongly tested Brenon, but she stopped all six shots on target to preserve Holy Cross' two-goal advantage.
- Brennon recorded three more saves in the next two minutes before Carly Beniek struck at 9:48 to give the home team a 3-0 lead.
- Kettyle, with the assistance of Tamara Thiérus (Saint-Jérôme, Quebec) and Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario), scored 31 seconds later to lift UNH within 3-1.
- The Wildcats recorded a 4-1 shot advantage the rest of the stanza (9 minutes, 41 seconds) to finish with a 17-6 edge in the period.
THIRD PERIOD SUMMARY
- UNH recorded a 22-13 shot advantage in the final frame but was outscored 2-1, including an empty-net power-play tally.
- Sirum netted her second goal of the game at 11:13 to extend the home team's advantage to 4-1.
- UNH scored its first power-play goal of the season at 14:57 to once again pull within two goals, 4-2. Kettyle's initial shot from the left point was stopped by Brenon, but Jada Christian (Caledon East, Ontario) jammed in the rebound from the top of the crease. Annie Berry (Milton, Mass.) was credited with the secondary assist.
- UNH pulled Boutilier in favor of an extra skater with 3:18 remaining. Moments later, Brenon denied the initial shot and rebound chance off the stick of Rae Breton (Brighton, Ontario).
- UNH was whistled for interference at 18:12. Boutilier reentered the game but exited again nine seconds later.
- Brenon turned away shots by Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario) and Christian, then Lilly Feeney scored into the empty net with 15 seconds left.

- Berry extended her point streak to four games (one goal, three assists) and assist streak to three games (three assists).
- Kelly now has a four-game point streak with two goals and three assists in that span.
- Thiérus has recorded an assist in two straight games.
- Christian has four points – all on goals – this season.
- Boutilier is No. 4 on the program's career saves leaderboard with 2,027. Next on the list is Melissa Bourdon (2004-07) at 2,060.
- Boutilier climbed to No. 5 in career minutes at 4403:51. She surpassed Dina Solimini (1994-96) at 4390:44.
- UNH's penalty kill had been perfect the previous four games and entered the game ranked No. 10 in the nation, but Holy Cross was a perfect 3-for-3 on the power play (including an empty-netter).

- Holy Cross recorded its first win in nine games against New Hampshire.
- The Wildcats had won the previous eight meetings, including a 6-2 victory Dec. 23 at the Whittemore Center.
