Storey Tallies 17 in Loss to Maine

BANGOR, Maine – Senior Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) tallied a game-high 17 points as the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to the University of Maine by a score of 67-50 on Wednesday night.
The first of two meetings between the two teams this year ends in Maine's favor after the Wildcats allow 25 points off of turnovers, and the Black Bears shot a perfect 11-of-11 at the free throw line. The Wildcats came away with the higher rebound total, leading 34-33, but also led in turnovers, 17-13.
BORDER BATTLE: This year UNH and Maine are facing off in the Border Battle series, sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings. The winning team of each contest, across all sports, earns free wings for their fans from Buffalo Wild Wings. Going into tonight's action, UNH was up 6-4 in the series. After splitting results tonight between men's and women's basketball, UNH still holds a two-game lead, 7-5.
NEXT UP: This is a short one-game road trip for the 'Cats before returning home once again to host the Stony Brook Seawolves next Saturday, January 11 at 1 P.M. in Lundholm Gymnasium for Alumni Day.

HIGHLIGHTS:
- Storey's game-high 17 points came off of 50% shooting (7-of-14) and a perfect 3-of-3 three-point shooting. Storey also grabbed six rebounds, dished three assists and grabbed two steals.
- Once again scoring in double figures was junior Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) with 12 points, along with three rebounds. Torres also led the team in assists with four, and steals with three.
- The team leader in rebounds was junior Maggie Ahearn (Marshfield, Mass.), grabbing seven, which is a new season high. She also tallied four points on the evening and posted one steal.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Black Bears looked to take control early, opening up the game with a 5-0 run.
- New Hampshire fought back at the end of the first quarter and a layup by redshirt freshman Faith Bonett (Moorestown, N.J.) cut the Maine lead to just three points at the quarter break, 14-11.
- The Wildcats took their first lead of the game with 9:24 to go in the second quarter, with a jumper by Storey, assisted by freshman Héléna Delaruelle (Enghien-les-Bains, France) to go up by a score of 15-14, and eventually 17-16 at the second quarter media break.
- A back-and-forth second quarter would lead to a Maine three-point lead at halftime after a last-second layup by Anne Simon.
- The Black Bears came out firing in the second half with an 8-0 run; Maine would lead by double digits with 6:29 remaining in the third and wouldn't look back, leading by as many as 20 points in the final quarter and a half.

- Torres has now tallied double-digit points in six of the last eight contests; she is averaging 10.9 points per game in that stretch.
- Maine now leads the all-time series 57-32.
- New Hampshire is now 1-8 in roads games this season.
- UNH is only 1-3 this season when outrebounding its opponent.
