Lavoie Leads UNH in Loss to Vermont

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore guard Elizabeth Lavoie (Hampstead, N.H.) led the UNH women's basketball team with eight points and seven rebounds in Saturday's 60-35 loss against the University of Vermont at Lundholm Gymnasium.
Graduate guard Kenzie Matulonis (Raynham, Mass.) and freshman guard Carolina Williams (Valatie, N.Y.) combined to score UNH's two 3-pointers. Matulonis finished with five points, two rebounds and two steals. Williams also netted five points. Junior guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) had six points, five rebounds and three steals.
UVM's leading scorer was Nikola Priede with 23 points. Malia Lenz had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
UNH moves to 8-15 overall and 2-8 in America East. Vermont is now 20-6 overall, 9-2 AE.

FIRST QUARTER
- Alia Cordone (Davis, Calif.) ended Vermont's game-opening 11-0 run with a tough layup, assisted by DeChent, to give the home 'Cats their first points of the game at 1:47.
- Vermont outscored UNH 17-2 in the first quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
- UVM opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run to extend the advantage to 20+ points.
- Matulonis battled to the basket to get her first points at 3:45.
- UNH had a 7-0 spurt spanning 80 seconds late in the second quarter.
- Lucia Melero (Barcelona, Spain) banked a layup in off the backboard at 1:56.
- Matulonis hit UNH's first 3-pointer with 57 seconds on the clock.
- Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) picked a Catamount pocket and converted the steal into a fast break driving layup at with 36 seconds left to trim the deficit to 30-12.
- UVM took a 33-13 lead into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
- Lavoie took her first trip to the foul line, where she made both at 8:32 to advance the score to 34-15.
- DeChent went to work with a jump shot at 6:40.
- Lavoie drove to the rim for a contested layup with 46 seconds on the clock.
- UNH shot 100% from the free throw line in the third quarter to score eight of its 12 points in the quarter, which ended with the Wildcats trailing 50-25.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Both teams scored 10 fourth-quarter points.
- DeChent pulled up for a field goal at 7:46, giving UNH two more, 51-27.
- Williams hit a quick-release corner 3-pointer at 3:52 that was assisted by Cavanaugh.
- Lavoie bullied her way to the basket at 2:53 for a layup, extending UNH to a 6-0 run and the score to 57-33.
- Williams put the last points on the board on a driving layup down the lane as the game ended with a final score of 60-35.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Lavoie was UNH's leading scorer in a game for the third time this season.
- She was also the Wildcats' top rebounder in a game for the seventh time.
- It is the first game she was the top 'Cat in both scoring and rebounding.
- Cordone matched her career high of two blocks.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UVM scored 40 points in the paint, whereas UNH was stifled to only 16.
- UNH committed 14 turnovers in comparison to UVM's nine.
- The Wildcats shot 73.3% (11-15) from the free throw line while the Catamounts shot 64.3% (9-14).
- The teams combined to make five 3-pointers on a total of 35 attempts.
