Lavoie, Cavanaugh Score 12 Apiece in 50-42 Loss at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior guard Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) and sophomore guard Elizabeth Lavoie (Hampstead, N.H.) scored 12 points apiece but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was defeated 50-42 by Binghamton University at Dr. Bai Lee Court on Thursday night.
Cavanaugh also pulled down a career- and team-high nine rebounds while Lavoie netted her points on an efficient 4 of 6 shooting from 3-point range and also had five rebounds. Junior guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) finished with six points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a career-high four blocks.
Binghamton was led by Bella Pucci (20 points) and Kendall Bennett (13 points, 14 rebounds).
UNH moves to 6-13 overall and 0-6 in America East. The Bearcats are 13-6, 5-1.

FIRST QUARTER
- Cavanaugh high consecutive 3-pointers to give the Wildcats an early 6-0 lead and Lavoie connected from behind the 3-point line to push the advantage to 9-2 at 6:17.
- The Bearcats trimmed the deficit to 11-9 before Camryn Fauria (North Attleborough, Mass.) and Cavanaugh made back-to-back baskets to extend UNH's advantage to 15-9 with 1:01 on the clock and the 'Cats led by that six-point score through 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
- Binghamton rallied to tie the score, 17-17, at 5:46 but Cavanaugh's jumper from the left elbow put New Hampshire back on top, 19-17, at 5:21.
- The Bearcats went on a 9-0 run to surge out to a 26-19 lead at 2:03.
- DeChent drove down the lane for a layup with six seconds left in the half to lift UNH within 26-21.
THIRD QUARTER
- The Wildcats opened the third quarter with an 8-2 run capped by Lavoie's 3-pointer from the right corner to go back on top, 29-28, at 7:10.
- Pucci responded with a 3-pointer to give Binghamton a 31-29 lead.
- UJNH went back ahead, 33-31, on baskets by DeChent at 5:39 and Lucia Melero Sabat (Barcelona, Spain) at 5:04.
- Lavoie's fourth 3-pointer of the night gave the 'Cats a 36-35 lead at 3:23 and neither team scored again the rest of the quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Binghamton scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to build a 42-36 lead that would not be relinquished.
- Cavanaugh's jumper ended the run and narrowed the gap to 42-38 at 4:21.
- Carolina Williams (Valatie, N.Y.) made a pair of free throws at 2:24 to lift the Wildcats within 46-40. She made two more foul shots with one second left to close the scoring.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Cavanaugh surpassed her previous career high of seven rebounds.
- Lavoie tied her career high of four 3-pointers established Dec. 30, 2024 at Stonehill.
- DeChent bested her previous mark of two blocks, which she had done 10 times.
- Kenzie Matulonis (Raynham, Mass.) matched her season high of four steals. Her career high is five.
- Williams was a perfect 4-for-4 at the foul line and the four three throws are a personal best.
- UNH matched its season high with seven blocks. The Wildcats also blocked seven shots in the conference opener at Bryant University.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UNH limited a Binghamton team that entered the game averaging 69.4 points per game to 50 points.
