DeChent Scores Game-High 17 Points in 56-51 Win at UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. – Junior guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to Saturday afternoon's 56-51 America East conference road win against UAlbany at Broadview Center.
DeChent was an efficient 7 of 11 shooting for the floor and was a perfect 2-for-2 at the foul line before fouling out with 2:26 to play and UNH holding a 56-48 lead.
Senior guard Camryn Fauria (North Attleborough, Mass.) scored 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting, including 2 of 2 from 3-point range, and had five rebounds. Junior guard Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) finished with eight points, seven rebounds, five steals and an assist while senior forward Lucia Melero Sabat (Barcelona, Spain) scored eight points and blocked two shots.
UAlbany was led offensively by Delanie Hill (15 points) and Amaya Stewart (14).
UNH improves to 7-13 overall and 1-6 in America East while UAlbany is now 11-9, 1-6.

FIRST QUARTER
- DeChent scored UNH's first six points of the game on three layups to give the Wildcats a 6-3 lead at 6:19.
- Fauria's 3-pointer from the top of the key extended the advantage to six points, 11-5, at 4:11.
- UAlbany ended the quarter on an 8-2 run to tie the score, 13-13, through 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
- Hill's 3-pointer put the Great Danes back on top, 16-13, but Elizabeth Lavoie (Hampstead, N.H.) answered with a three-point play to level the score.
- On UNH's next possession, DeChent also converted the and-1 following a layup to give the 'Cats a 19-18 lead at 8:18.
- Back-to-baskets by Melero Sabat at 7:44 and 6:49 pushed the lead to 23-18.
- UAlbany closed within one point, 23-22, before Fauria hit her second 3-pointer of the game and Lavoie's layup on the left side of the rim pushed the margin to 28-22 at 3:26.
- The Great Danes once again closed within a point, 28-27, at 1:57.
- From the right wing, Kenzie Matulonis (Raynham, Mass.) lobbed a pass over the defense to Melero Sabat, who finished on the blocks with a layup to send UNH into halftime with a 30-27 lead.
THIRD QUARTER
- With the score tied at 32, Matulonis stole the ball near midcourt and scored on a fastbreak layup to give UNH a 34-32 lead at 7:25 – UAlbany did not pull even or regain the lead the rest of the way.
- DeChent converted another three-point play at 5:40 and then Matulonis found Melero Sabat cutting down the middle of the lane for a layup at 4:48 to advance the score to 41-34.
- DeChent's layup gave the Wildcats their first double-digit lead of the game, 47-36, at 2:12.
- Stewart made one free throw with 1:59 on the clock to close the third-quarter scoring.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UAlbany opened the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run to trim the deficit to 47-43 at 6:42.
- UNH answered with Fauria's layup at 5:38, steal by Matulonis, and step-back 3-pointer by DeChent to push the lead back to nine points, 52-43, at 4:58.
- The Great Danes inched within 56-51 with 1:47 to play, but UNH's defense held the home team scoreless the rest of the way on 0-for-5 shooting from the floor and one turnover.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Matulonis contributed four points, four steals and three assists. She recorded a season-high four steals for the second consecutive game.
- Matulonis' 24 minutes played marked her second-highest total of the season to the 29 minutes in Game 2 of the season at Boston College.
- Lavoie finished with seven points, three steals and two rebounds.
- Cavanaugh's five steals are one less than her career high of six established against Worcester State.
- Cavanaugh has 37 points and 23 rebounds the past three games.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- In a game that had four ties and three lead changes, UNH led for a total of 33:18 in comparison to UAlbany's 2:56.
- UNH recorded 16 steals on 19 UAlbany turnovers.
- The Wildcats outscored the Great Danes in the paint, 40-20.
- UNH did not allow a fastbreak point.
