DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team returns home to start the second half of conference play, hosting the UMass Lowell River Hawks at Lundholm Gym on Saturday, February 1 at 12 P.M.
The Wildcats are coming off their third straight road victory, a 59-51 triumph in Burlington against the Vermont Catamounts; the River Hawks just suffered their first loss of the conference season to undefeated Stony Brook (8-0 in conference play).
The two teams met earlier this season to kick off conference play, with UMass Lowell edging out UNH by a score of 58-53.
UP NEXT: After Saturday's contest, UNH will take another midweek hiatus, not playing a Wednesday game, followed by a road contest at Stony Brook. New Hampshire returns home the following Wednesday, February 12 at 11 A.M. for its annual Education Day game against Vermont. LAST TIME OUT:
- Senior Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) tallied a team-high 18 points as the Wildcats defeated the University of Vermont Catamounts by a score of 59-51 at Patrick Gymnasium.
- The Wildcats tallied 20 points off of Vermont's 21 turnovers, including eight points off 10 turnovers in the final quarter, to eventually pull away from the Catamounts. UNH only committed six turnovers in the contest.
- Soucy's team-high 18 points came off of 6-of-15 shooting, and 5-of-7 at the free throw line. Soucy also grabbed six rebounds and dished an assist with no turnovers in the contest.
- Junior forward Maggie Ahearn (Marshfield, Mass.) got the start and notched a double-double in the fourth quarter, tallying 11 points and 11 rebounds.
- Junior guard Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) also tallied 11 points, putting the game away with four straight free throws (5-of-10 total from the line). She also drew a team-high seven fouls, had four assists to no turnovers, and grabbed three steals.
- Senior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) notched six points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and a team-high five steals to help propel the Wildcats' transition offense. Storey also had one of UNH's two blocks on the afternoon.
ABOUT UMASS LOWELL:
- The River Hawks (Lowell, Mass.) enter the weekend with just one loss in conference play.
- UML is averaging 61 points per game and allowing 56.3 per game in America East play.
- The River Hawks rank fourth in the conference in rebounds per game (38.6) and third in offensive rebounds per game (13.2).
- Lowell's loss to Stony Brook snapped a six-game winning streak which began in the non-conference season, bringing the River Hawks from a 5-9 to an 11-9 record.
