Soucy, Storey Pace Wildcats in Loss to UMass Lowell

DURHAM, N.H. – Seniors Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) and Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) both tallied double-digit scoring but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell in a tough battle with UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon in Lundholm Gym. The Wildcats got an early lead but the River Hawks took over midway through the first quarter and led for the rest of the way, taking the game by a score of 66-53.
NEXT UP: After a week off, the Wildcats travel to Stony Brook, N.Y. next Saturday, February 8 with a 2 P.M. tip-off on ESPN3.

HIGHLIGHTS:
- Soucy led the team with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting (54.5%) and had a team-high six steals in the back and forth fast-paced contest. Soucy also grabbed five rebounds and dished two assists.
- Storey tallied 14 in the contest, and had the team-high in rebounds (6) and assists (4).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats got a lead up to four points with 4:30 remaining in the first, but the River Hawks would close the gap and go on a 10-0 run to end the first quarter up 18-11.
- Lowell continued its run up to an 11-point lead by the media stoppage of the second quarter.
- The 'Cats kicked it into gear in the final two minutes before halftime, closing the gap with a 7-2 run, with three buckets from Ashley Storey, including a three-pointer off a feed from Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) on their final possession, putting the score at 30-26 at the end of the half.
- The 'Hawks kept their lead in the seven point to 10 point margin for most of the third quarter; the closest the 'Cats got was a short run with three minutes to go, starting with a steal-and-score by Caroline Soucy, two free throws from Storey, and a layup by Faith Bonett (Moorestown, N.J.) to cut UML's lead to just four points at 38-34.
- Lowell would retake the lead at the free throw line and led 46-37 going into the final frame.
- The River Hawks outscored UNH 20-16 in the final frame, keeping the game out of reach for the Wildcats.
