DURHAM, N.H. – With the final month of regular season play approaching, the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team faces off in a home-and-home series with the Holy Cross Crusaders this Friday and Saturday, January 24 and 25.
New Hampshire is coming off a tough weekend that saw two home losses to Providence College, while the Crusaders dropped their home-and-home series with #8 Boston University.
TIGHT PLAYOFF RACE
Positions 4-8 of the women's Hockey East standings are all each separated by a win (two points) or less. The Wildcats currently sit in sixth with 17 points; they are led by Providence (20), and UConn (19), and are trailed by Maine and Vermont (16). Holy Cross currently sits in ninth, just outside playoff qualification, at seven points.
THE FINAL PUSH
These two teams are approaching their final month of the regular season with some tough schedules ahead; UNH's remaining conference opponents include two with Maine, Boston College, Boston University, and one with Merrimack; Holy Cross still has yet to face Vermont this season, as well as two with Providence, and one with BC and BU.
HOME SWEET HOME
Friday's contest will be the final game of a five-game home-stand, and the Wildcats will be on the road for their following series to open up February. UNH returns home Tuesday, February 4 for a mid-week matchup with Granite State rival Dartmouth, and will return home for its next home Hockey East contest Saturday, February 15th as the Wildcats host BU. LAST TIME OUT
- UNH fell to Providence in the two-game home series at the Whittemore Center last Friday and Saturday; the Wildcats tied the game at one goal apiece in each contest, but the Friars pulled away in the end to win 3-1 on Friday and 2-1 on Saturday.
- All six UNH points on the weekend came from the line of Jada Christian (Caledon East, Ontario), Tamara Thiérus (St. Jérôme, Quebec) and Lauren Martin (Cambridge, Ontario), with Thiérus and Martin alternating primary and secondary assists on two game-tying goals by Christian.
