DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team continues its five-game homestand this Friday and Saturday, hosting the Providence College Friars at the Whittemore Center.
The Wildcats host the Friars Friday, January 17 at 6 P.M. and Saturday, January 18 at 2 P.M. with important conference points on the line in the second-to-last month of the regular season.
The Wildcats are coming off a split weekend with UConn, while Providence is also coming off a split with #8 Boston University. Both teams sit at 11-9-2 overall.
TIGHT PLAYOFF RACE
Positions 2-8 of the women's Hockey East standings are all each separated by a win (two points) or less. The Wildcats currently sit in fifth with 17 points, behind UConn with 19. Providence is just behind UNH at 16 points. Spots 1-4 host the first round of the Hockey East Tournament, while 5-8 go on the road.

The Wildcats have faced 92 opponent power play opportunities, allowing only eight goals; that's good for a .913 penalty kill percentage, ranked #4 in the country.

LAST TIME OUT
- New Hampshire wrapped up the season series with the UConn Huskies this past weekend at home, with a 4-0 loss on Friday and a 1-0 overtime win on Saturday, to take the season series with UConn 2-1-0.
- The Wildcats couldn't find any offense on Friday, despite outshooting the Huskies 30-28 and getting six power play opportunities.
- UNH responded on Saturday with a staunch defensive performance as freshman netminder Nikki Harnett (Plymouth, Minn.) stopped all 32 UConn bids in the contest.
- It was a scoreless stalemate until the third minute of overtime; after a scrum in front of the net, the puck came loose to junior Maddie Truax (Gardner, Mass.) who flicked a wrist shot off the bar and in for her first goal of the season, and a win for the Wildcats.

- The Friars (Providence, R.I.) come into the weekend with an identical overall record to the 'Cats (11-9-2) and a nearly identical conference record (8-7-0).
- Providence comes off a weekend split with #8 BU, winning its home game 2-1, but losing 4-1 at Walter Brown Arena in Boston.
- Earlier this season the Wildcats took a 6-2 victory from the Friars in Providence.
- All-time, the Wildcats are 55-29-9 when playing the Friars at the Whittemore Center. This storied rivalry has seen a total of 155 total meetings.
