Larivee and Northrup Propel 'Cats to 20-14 Win at UVM

Larivee (5g, 2a) and Northrup (3g, 3a) Lead UNH to 10th Win of Season
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Mickenzie Larivee (Amherst, N.H.) and Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) recorded seven and six points, respectively, to lead the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Saturday afternoon's 20-14 America East victory against the University of Vermont at Virtue Field.
Larivee matched her season highs in both goals (five) and assists (two) for a season high of seven points. Northrup scored a career-high three goals and equaled her best of three assists for a personal best of six points.
Catherine Sexton (Niskayuna, N.Y.) tallied her 50th career goal with game totals of three goals and an assist. Elizabeth Blanding (Pittsford, N.Y.) also finished with four points on two goals and two assists.
Devan Miller (Bristol, R.I.; 2g, 1a), Julia Neyland (Boxborough, Mass.; 1g, 2a) and Rylee Leonard (Coventry, R.I.; 3a) recorded three points apiece.
Issy Torres (Elmhurst, Ill.) finished with eight saves. Caroline Hernon (Hampton, N.H.) helped lead the defensive effort with four ground balls, four caused turnovers and six draw controls. Tatum Benesh (Horseheads, N.Y.) finished with four GBs and three CTOs while Taylor Dudek (Amherst, N.H.) had three GBs and two CTOs.
UVM was led by Jenna Janes (4g, 2a) and Grace Giancola (4a), who also had a game-high eight draw controls. Maddy Kuras was credited with 11 saves.
UNH won its second consecutive game to improve to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in America East. The Wildcats, who had clinched a berth in the conference tournament Friday night, are tied for second in the conference standings with one game remaining.
UVM lost its sixth consecutive game to fall to 7-7, 1-5.

FIRST HALF
- UVM controlled the opening draw and, after Torres made a save, took a 1-0 lead on Janes' goal at 28:11.
- Larivee's four goals fueled a 5-0 run that gave New Hampshire a lead it would not relinquish. She tied the score off Miller's pass at 25:51 and gave the Wildcats a 2-1 lead, this time off a feed from Northrup, at 23:05.
- Blanding set up Masseur at 20:12 and Northrup set up Larivee again 37 seconds later to extend UNH's advantage to 4-1.
- Larivee split two defenders on the left side and shot high into the upper-right corner for her fourth goal of the game and 5-1 lead at 14:57.
- Jenny Caoili scored 30 seconds later to halt the visitor's five-goal spurt.
- On a free position from the top of the fan, Northrup took one step and fired a low shot into the cage for a 6-2 advantage at 11:32.
- Larivee scored again into the upper-right corner – this time on a Michele Smith (Wantagh, N.Y.) pass – at 10:32 and Miller converted Powell's pass into a goal an 8-2 lead at 7:34.
- UVM called time out and Taylor Mullen scored at 6:14.
- From the right wing, Leonard slipped a pass to Sexton at the right doorstep and she scored on a high shot for a 9-3 advantage at 2:15.
- Miller's second goal of the half made it 10-3 at 1:21.
- Torres denied Janes with 13 seconds on the clock. The Wildcats quickly advanced the ball to the other end of the field and Powell beat the clock to send New Hampshire into halftime with an 11-3 lead.
SECOND HALF
- Sexton's second strike of the game, 26th of the season and 50th of her career gave UNH a 15-8 lead at 18:19.
- Vermont scored four goals in three minutes to trim the deficit to 16-13 at 10:47.
- Torres denied Caoili on a free position at 7:22 to keep the margin at three goals. UVM maintained possession, however, but Meghan Doyle (Pittsford, N.Y.) intercepted a pass at the top of the goalie circle and advanced the ball into UNH's attack zone. From behind the net, Larivee found Neyland alone at the right doorstep and she scored into the open side of the net for a 17-13 lead at 6:48.
- Abby Cranney (Amherst, N.H.) curled around the left post and finished Leonard's feed in the middle of the circle to extend the cushion to 18-13 at 5:20.
- Masseur netted UNH's 19th goal at 4:41 and Sexton scored the Wildcats' 20th tally at 2:34.
- Maris Large capped the scoring at 1:48. UVM controlled the ensuing draw but Benesh's stick check and subsequent ground ball allowed New Hampshire to run out the rest of the clock.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- UNH's 10 wins is the highest total since the 2010 Wildcats were 10-7.
- New Hampshire has five conference wins for the first time since 2005 (5-1).
- The Wildcats have six road wins in a season for the first time since 2004.
- The last time UNH scored 20+ goals in a game was April 1, 2015 (22-6 win at UMass Lowell).
- Leonard extended her point streak to 14 games.
- Larivee extended her goal and point streaks to eight games.
- Miller has a five-game goal streak.
- It was Masseur's first multiple-point game.
- Nine Wildcats recorded multiple points. Six 'Cats scored multiple goals and four had multiple assists.
